One Research Assistant

Period 1: 31 January – 21 February 2025 (16 mandays)

Period 2: 26 March – 11 April 2025 (12 mandays)

Up to max of 168 hours of work over the two periods.May not be expected to work every weekday

Mondays to Fridays, 9:30am to 4.30pm, 1 hour break. Not required on Sats, Suns and gazetted PH.

Use IT tools to automate data collection processes for a research study (e.g., using macros in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Word):

• Generate administrative forms, reports and other materials to be sent to schools;

• Collate and check data submitted by schools;

• Communicate and clarify with schools on data submission.

May also be required to perform other administrative tasks.

RA should be meticulous and strong in IT skills. He/she must be able to use IT tools to automate data collection processes (e.g., using macros in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Word).

Place of work - MOE North Buona Vista Drive, must be able to commit to work for the 2 periods.

Salary: 20 per hr.

Job Scope:

• Support Teaching and Learning – Provides technical assistance to teachers (if required) during lessons on issues related to projectors or sound system in classrooms, lecture theatres, computer labs and seminar rooms.

• Supports school Events – Prepares, sets up, positions, connects and configures audio visual (AV) equipment for “live” audience and/or smiltaneous broadcast to staff and students across the school.

• Equipment fault diagnosis/maintenance – Maintains and troubleshoots faulty AV equipment.

• Preventive Maintenance - Performs routine preventive check on AV equipment.

• Asset Management – Perform routine inventory check of AV equipment in preparastion for internal and external audit checks.

• School facilities management – supports school in the managing of contractors in carrying out periodic facilities maintenance.

• Supports the school during school-wide events and examinations.

• Coaches FSV Society members in operating AV equipment.

Requirements:

• Nitec, or its equivalent, or higher, in audio and video specializations and with at least 1 year of experience in the similar field or professions.
• Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Contract Period: 1 Jan 2025 to 31 Dec 2025

Purpose of the role:

The Team is currently seeking a detail-oriented Research Assistant (RA) to play a key role in analysing transcribed focused-group discussions.

Job scope:

• The RA will be responsible for cross-checking and verifying preliminary transcriptions generated using AI transcription tools, ensuring accuracy and completeness of the transcribed content.
• Additionally, the RA will conduct a thorough preliminary analysis of the discussions, including summarising key points, identifying themes, and capturing valuable insights.
• This role involves close collaboration with the Senior Specialists and officers of the Arts Education Branch to fully understand specific requirements, details, and deadlines related to the transcribed content.

Requirement:

- capable of providing transcription and analysis of qualitative data,

- proficient in maintaining accuracy and attention to detail during transcription review and analysis,

- familiar with research methodologies and data analysis techniques; and

- possess strong communication skills for summarising and presenting key findings

- familiar with transcription verification tools or software to facilitate comparison of transcribed content with original audio recordings,

- proficient in using presentation and visualisation tools to effectively communicate the preliminary analysis findings (such as Microsoft Power Point, MS Word, Excel),

- proficient in data management and storage for organising and cataloguing transcribed content,

- familiar with tools or methods that can resolve mistakes or issues in the transcribed content, using software or processes that ensure the accuracy and quality of the transcriptions, to maintain the overall quality and reliability of the transcribed discussions.

Job Scope:

Your duties and responsibilities include but are not restricted to the following:

• To assist in the distribution and collection of consent forms in preschools selected for data collection.
• To liaise and schedule with preschools to facilitate a smooth data collection process.
• To undertake data collection, data organization, data entry, data cleaning etc.
• Any other duties assigned by the NIE Research Team.

Allowance:

Part-time Research Assistants are allowed to claim for transport according to the data collection guidelines which will be provided during training. Transport claims will be from project budget allocated for travel.

Requirements

· A diploma in the field related to the study (education) is preferred.

· Work experience in Singapore schools preferred.

· Proven work experience as a Research Assistant or similar role.

· Excellent administrative skills.

· Ability to work under pressure.

· Excellent time management skills.

Responsibilities

· Attend project meetings and other meetings as necessary to represent the project team.

· Summarize project results.

· Prepare progress reports.

· Prepare other articles, reports, and presentations.

· Assist in preparing instruments and protocols for data collection.

· Assist in taking field notes during lesson observations, interviews, and focus group discussions.

· Travel to field sites to collect and record data and/or samples as appropriate to the specific objectives of the study.

· Review and clean data to ensure completeness and accuracy of information; follow up with subjects to resolve problems or clarify data collected.

· Maintain accurate records of survey, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary.

· Assist in transcribing and coding of interviews and focus group discussions.

· Provide ready access to all project related data for the faculty researcher and the project team.

· As appropriate to the specified position, code and verify data in accordance with specified research protocol and coding procedures and enter data into a computer database and/or spreadsheet application for subsequent analysis.

· Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

· Assist in preparing findings for publication.

· Assist in writing and contributing to publications.

Responsibilities:

• Proactively engage students and parents to enhance effectiveness of the programme

Requirements:
• Possess at least 5 “O” level or equivalent.
