We are looking for a research officer to apply biomolecular modelling methods, including homology modelling and molecular dynamics, to understand the molecular mechanisms of coding variants that are associated with type 2 diabetes. We are seeking talented postdoctoral or research fellows to join the Genome Re-InnovaTion-Lab (https://grit-lab.org/), part of Synthetic Biology Translational Research Programme (TRP) at the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The Synthetic Biology TRP aims to develop novel genome editing tools, specifically by engineering existing CRISPRs, enhancing functionality through combinations with other enzymes, and screening desired mutants from the library via directed evolution.

The Research Fellow/s (RFs) will collaborate closely with the Principal Investigator and the research team to develop CRISPR tools. Appointments will initially be made on a 1-year contract, with the possibility of extension. PhD holders with no experience are welcome to apply.

The Research Fellow is expected to:

1. Rationally design protein engineering sites and conduct various library generation experiments (e.g., error-prone PCR, site saturation mutation) to create a library with high diversity;
2. Test CRISPR in various mammalian cell lines and measure indel efficiencies using Next Generation Sequencing tools;
3. Mentor research assistants, graduate, and undergraduate students;
4. Assist in any other duties delegated by the Principal Investigator and group leaders.

Qualifications

The applicant should:

1. Hold a PhD in Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, or related disciplines;
2. Have extensive knowledge and hands-on experience on genetic parts assembly, pathway engineering, microbial strain engineering, fermentation, recovery and analytics of targeted metabolites;
3. Have the ability to design and perform experiments for microbial strain engineering, gene expression, protein expression, enzymatic assays, microbial fermentation, and product recovery;
4. Know how to work independently and in a team, have an investigative nature and a strong attention to detail;
5. Possess an established record of international publications

Job Description

This project aims to automate the design of origami-based deployable building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) to mitigate the energy consumption of skyscrapers. Buildings worldwide account for a third of energy consumption, BIPV offers a sustainable solution, embedding solar panels into building exteriors. However, the complexity of BIPV installation and a lack of skilled professionals impede their broader adoption. To overcome the challenge in installation, we’re introducing deployable BIPVs and developing a dedicated design tool tailored for origami-based BIPVs on skyscrapers.

The main research tasks for the project include but will not be limited to:

• Origami Pattern Design: To devise a comprehensive tool that facilitates the design of origami-based deployable BIPVs

• Thickness Accommodation: To establish a general thickness accommodation model that converts origami patterns into tangible BIPV prototypes;

• Prototyping and Testing: To fabricate a scaled laboratory prototype of the envisioned BIPVs

• Research & Documentations: document all research findings, tool development stages, and pattern designs for reference and publication

• Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with research fellow, Ph.D. students, masters, and undergraduates in the group.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Origami Engineering, Structural Optimization, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related disciplines.
• Experience in developing origami patterns, structural optimization, robotics, mechatronics, etc.;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Good teamwork abilities, self-motivation, and self-reflection.
• Proficiency in the English language, both in oral and written form.

Project Title: Early Support for Foundational Skills of Preschool Children at Socio-economic Risk in Singapore

Project Introduction: This project funded by the MOE Science of Learning (SoL) Programme takes a proof-of-concept approach to develop and trial the efficacy of targeted interventions for preschool children at Nursery 2 in Singapore to build their foundational skills – both academic and non-academic. A randomized controlled design is applied to gauge intervention efficacy in preschool classrooms. The goal of the research programme is to translate the research findings into packages of professional development and teaching materials for early childhood classrooms. The overarching aim is to improve essential skills for low SES children before they enter kindergarten.

Requirements

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of the research project in this translational study. This position requires excellent organizational skills, attention to details and accuracy, good interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to meet deadlines.

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Child Development, Early Childhood Education or a related field from a University of good standing
• Possess excellent communication skills with a good command of the English language to perform literature reviews, and create visual infographics for presentations
