We are currently recruiting an Assistant Manager to join the Research Achievements, Impact and Strategic Enhancement (RAISE) Unit at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine).

The Research Achievements, Impact and Strategic Enhancement (RAISE) Unit is a relatively new unit that is established to develop strategies to enhance the research impact, visibility and reputation of the school institutionally, nationally and internationally. It sits within the ambit of the LKCMedicine Research Administration and Support Services Department under the Vice Dean of Research Office. You will be part of a dynamic and trailblazing team at the vanguard of highlighting and reporting on the school’s research impact and achievements. You will also work with other departments including the School Faculty, Finance, Office of Innovation and Enterprise (OIE) and Office of Patient Engagement (OPEN).

Responsibilities:

• Organize and staff research programme meetings including minutes writing
• Liaise and work closely with research programme directors to consolidate the research achievements of each programme for reporting to the School Management, Governing Board and Board of Trustees
• To produce PowerPoint slide decks for high-level corporate presentations, reporting purposes and school-wide communications
• To assist the RAISE Unit in the production of materials for visual communication, including report figures and infographics for presentations and reports
• To consolidate updates and information received by the RAISE Unit such as media releases/publicity, publication updates from Faculty, awards and achievements from Faculty
• Assist with the preparation of Dean’s Management Report (quarterly) and the school annual report
• Monitor and track the budget expenditure of internally funded grants and work together with Principal Investigators / Programme Directors to facilitate budget phasing and expenditure when necessary
• Assist to coordinate the annual budget exercise for research division working closely with different stakeholders to ensure budget marksmanship
• Manage the school internal grants which includes post grant operations such as account creation, budget loading, account closure
• Any ad-hoc tasks where required

Requirements:

The Animal Research Facilities (ARF) at NTU is seeking to hire a Director/Deputy Director who is experienced in all aspects of managing an academic animal research facility. It comprises of 4 main housing facilities licensed by the Animal and Veterinary Services at NParks.

• Animal Research Facilities at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Clinical Science Building, Novena, holding mainly rodents (1,600sqm)
• Research Support Building at NTU Yunnan Campus housing rodents (1,300sqm)

Responsibilities:

1. Oversee animal care, equipment and ARF-RSB facility team to meet the needs of LKCMedicine and SBS scientific communities.

• Responsible for developing, timely updating and communicating all standard operating procedures. This includes the acquisition and maintenance of equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety.
• Ensure compliance to IACUC protocols and ethics to safeguard animal welfare.
• Involve in conducting animal facility inspections as appropriate, including tracking and reporting statistics for Singapore agencies to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements..

2. Management and Administration of budgets for ARF

• Preparation, submission and presentation of the annual budgets for the NTU ARFs (LKCMedicine and RSB) to senior management of LKCMedicine and NTU.

• Streamline and align ARF administration work such as procurement, with NTU policy and best practices in collaboration with ARF-RSB administrative leads.

3. Management of expanded suite of specialized services for the research community

• Design and develop in-house expanded scope of specialized service offerings tailored to the needs of the research community.
• Collaborate with principal investigators, veterinarian support staff, regulatory committees and industry partners to ensure the service meet high standards and industry requirements.
• Engage with external stakeholders including industry collaborators to promote and maximize the utilization of facility’s specialized services.
• Develop in-house capabilities including upskilling of staff to deliver the expanded suite of specialized services and keep pace with industry advancements and emerging research needs.

4. Fulfil and maintain accreditation standards to ensure compliance with professional accreditation regulations

• Responsible for maintaining all applicable accreditations standards for the care and use of laboratory animals at NTU.

5. Oversee planning and execution of activities and events relating to ARF

Requirements

• Veterinary Medical Degree (DVM or VMD) or PhD in Biomedical sciences. Diplomate status within the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (DACLAM) is desirable, but not required.
• At least 15 years’ experience working in an Animal Facility at the managerial and leadership level in managing and directing vivarium operations, including animal husbandry, preventative veterinary care, diagnosis, treatment, and control of disease, animal surgery and postoperative care, euthanasia, and necropsy.
• Documented experience in directing a complex animal resources program and awareness of Biological Agents and Toxins Act requirements in Singapore.
• Must be experienced in managing the operational needs of an animal facility including working with the staff and users.
• Possess knowledge of Singapore regulations, guidelines and policies, and AAALAC accreditation standards pertaining to the care and use of laboratory animals.
• Possess knowledge and experience in workflow between animal facilities of different hygienic standards, import of rodents and re-derivation projects as well as GLP operations and procedures.

DRCS is helmed by Associate Professor Nagaendran Kandiah, an internationally renowned clinician scientist in the field of dementia.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Fellow with a Ph.D. in Neuropsychology or Psychology to contribute to our center's ongoing research initiatives. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in conducting critical research, employing neuropsychological testing, psychometrics, test validation, digitalization of tests, statistical analyses, and intervention strategies.

The candidate will be part of the Health for Life in Singapore (HELIOS) Study team, a flagship Singapore population health study jointly conducted by LKCMedicine, National Healthcare Group and Imperial College of London. We aim to profile the health and behavior of up to 10,000 people from the general Singapore population over the next few years. We are conducting (1) surveys on health, lifestyle and dietary habits, (2) physical and functional measurements (e.g. anthropometry, strength, exercise test, spirometry, ECG, optical imaging and pulse wave velocity) and (3) biomarkers for chronic diseases.

Executive/ Senior Executive, Clinical Research Officer (Biobanking) in the Health Screening Centre

Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) is looking for a full-time Executive/ Senior Executive, Clinical Research Officer (Biobanking) for the Health for Life in Singapore (HELIOS) Study. This study is undertaken jointly by LKCMedicine, National Healthcare Group and Imperial College of London (www.healthforlife.sg). It aims to profile the health and behaviour of people from the general Singapore population. The scope of the study is segmented into (1) surveys on health, lifestyle and dietary habits, (2) physical and functional measurements (e.g. anthropometry, grip strength, exercise test, spirometry, ECG, optical imaging and pulse wave velocity) and (3) investigating biomarkers for chronic diseases. We have just received funding for Phase 2 of the study and are expanding our biobanking team to allow the study to reach out to more people.

The Clinical Research Officer will play a key role in supporting the study, mainly in, but not limited to, the following roles:

• Receive and process biological samples for banking purposes; with accuracy and in a timely manner without compromising sample quality.

• Assist in frozen sample retrieval and sorting.

• Perform nucleic acid (DNA and RNA) extraction and quantification.

• Perform daily routine measurements on analytical systems.

• Monitor quality standards by verifying equipment function through routine equipment maintenance, running daily quality controls and calibrations.

A Research Assistant position is available in the laboratory of Assistant Professor Kazuyuki Kasahara at the Novena campus of the LKCMedicine. Gut microbiota influences many areas of human health from immunity to energy metabolism and host physiology. The goal of our research group is to understand how bacterial metabolism, diet-microbe, and microbe-microbe interactions influence cardiometabolic disease (CMD). We will address the research question through a combination of experimental approaches including anaerobic bacterial physiology studies, metagenomics, and deep phenotypic characterization of mouse models of CMD.

The RA will work with the research team on the planning and execution of projects undertaken by the lab. The RA will also be handling the procurement and safety to support laboratory research needs.

Research project: Connecting within-host viral dynamics with the epidemiology of COVID-19: a multiscale computational infrastructure

In this project, we aim to develop a multiscale modeling framework and computational infrastructure to connect within-host viral dynamics and between-host transmission dynamics. The multiscale model will help address key epidemiological and public health questions which could not be answered by classic (single scale) approaches. Specifically, we plan to develop and calibrate the multiscale model for SARS-CoV-2 and assess effect of intervention (e.g., antiviral treatment) on epidemiological dynamics.

This project is led by Keisuke Ejima, an Assistant Professor at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University.

The Research Fellow primarily leads the project under supervision of PI in the areas of collecting clean data, reviewing literatures, lead model development, lead data analyses, leading the manuscript writing and other areas of the project support.

Candidates should have a PhD degree in a quantitative field, such as data science, computational biology, mathematics, computer science, (bio)statistics, or related field. Research experience and/or educational background on public health and medicine is a plus but not essential. Computational experience on R is preferred. Good communication skill and respectful attitude for teamwork. The successful applicant will work as part of a growing and energetic team, focusing on quantitatively understanding biological mechanisms of infection and its impact on both individual and population health.
