The Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE) is a unique interdisciplinary Research Centre of Excellence (RCE), funded by National Research Foundation, Ministry of Education, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and National University of Singapore (NUS). Hosted by NTU in partnership with NUS, SCELSE is linking new insights from the life sciences with expertise from emerging technologies in engineering and natural sciences to understand, harness and control microbial biofilm communities.
We are seeking to appoint a motivated individual to join our team at SCELSE as a Research Fellow. The successful candidate will lead projects that focus on obtaining a detailed molecular mechanistic understanding of microbial biofilm development, and microbe-microbe interactions, in settings relevant to food spoilage and the food chain. The selected candidate will work independently, with other team members, and with collaborators to perform both in vivo and in vitro experiments to address specific scientific questions related to biofilm development/community interactions in these settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- To plan, perform and document laboratory experiments to study biofilm development and community interactions.
- Work closely with the Principal Investigator to analyse and interpret data, troubleshoot experiments and write manuscripts on research outputs.
- To train students/staff in the lab in relevant techniques and contribute to co-supervision of some of these team members.
Job Requirements:
- PhD in biology, biomedicine, microbiology or a related field.
- Experience in general microbiology processes is essential.
- Ability to design, plan, and execute experiments independently is essential.
- Experience in biofilm research is desirable but not essential.
- Experience with metagenomics, metabolomics and fluorescence microscopy is desirable but not essential.
** Initial contract duration for 12 months, with the potential for extension.
We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
