As the Research Engineer (Equipment/Operations), you are directly involved in tool installation activities for semiconductor process tools. You would need to work proactively to coordinate with the contractor on the ground for the execution and take corrective and preventive actions of lessons learned, due diligently to prevent reoccurrence. You are responsible for performing utilities turn-on after installation is completed. The EOS/ASE Geodesy Group at NTU is searching for a Research Engineer II to work under the supervision of Prof Emma Hill on the role of tectonics in modifying regional relative sea level (RSL). The successful candidate will analyse geodetic data and conduct numerical modelling to estimate RSL related to past and future earthquakes and other processes of land-height change in Southeast Asia.

Further to this, they will work on projects aimed at effective communication of these results to policymakers and other stakeholders. They will investigate best practices for communicating probabilistic estimates of potential future impacts of earthquakes on RSL. The successful candidate will have a Bachelors’ degree in Earth Science, natural hazards, remote sensing, geodesy, computer science, data science, or a related subject. As quantum computers are operated in extreme physical conditions and thus the cost per run is significantly high, it is desirable to verify the correctness of a quantum programs before the execution. However, the verification task of quantum programs is challenging due to the following reasons:

• Quantum programs (even written at high-level languages) are complicated to comprehend as it requires a good understanding of quantum mechanics and the relevant advanced mathematics.
• The quantum states are exponentially huge in size because the state of a classical bit is either 0 or 1 at any time, while the state of a quantum bit (qubit) can be in the superposition, where both states 0 and 1 can co-exist simultaneously. This induces the state explosion problem for brute-force-like methods.
• Quantum states are naturally probabilistic thus may yield different results on different runs, which is challenging for the testing and debugging methods.
