Job Specification

The JAGC program is a collaboration between MiRXES and GIS (together with other public research institutions) to build a new high-throughput NGS platform to empower population-scale genome sequencing, high-resolution single cell genomics, large-scale epigenomics, as well as clinical genomics. We are searching for a talented and well-organised Programme Manager (PM) to join us at the Genome Institute of Singapore to play a leadership role in executing and managing this public-private partnership program. The Research Fellow will spearhead innovative projects in quantum machine learning, focusing on the study of non-Markovian processes to enhance the processing of classical and quantum data. • Provide expert advice to on-board new users to NSCC’s systems.

Job Description

Positions are available for Post-doctoral Fellows, Research Assistants, and Ph.D. students in the research group of Dr. Soh Siow Ling, at the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS).

The research of the group is highly interdisciplinary and involves soft functional matter, electrostatics, and dynamics (e.g., transport). The research usually involves molecules, polymeric molecules, bulk polymers, and interfaces of polymers. Other types of advanced materials (e.g., inorganic materials) are also considered. The research typically involves a combination of chemistry, materials science, physics, and engineering.

A major area of focus is the separation of charge at interfaces of matter (e.g., solid, liquid, and gas). Phenomena related to interfacial charge separation are very poorly understood; hence, there are tremendous opportunities for fundamental discoveries and development of novel applications. One project in particular is the coupling of advanced types of materials (e.g., including inorganic materials) and charge separation for harvesting energy from nature. Another example involves antistatic surfaces for preventing the adhesion of dust particles on surfaces.

Another area of focus involves functional polymers and stimuli-responsive systems for developing intelligence in materials.

The group aims to publish highly novel and impactful research works. Projects in the group usually involve unique research themes and strong fundamentals, including discovery and understanding of natural phenomena. Based on the fundamental science studied by the group, a wide range of applications are being developed; examples include clean energy, sustainability (e.g., recycling and filtering polluted atmosphere), surfaces with superior properties (e.g., antistatic surfaces), molecular separation, drug delivery, and soft machines.

The ideal candidate is preferably someone open-minded to unique fields of research, independent, and hardworking.
