EOS invites applications for Research Fellow position in volcano infrasound research relating to eruption detection and characterisation. The main focus on this project revolves around regional infrasound detection and identification of volcanic activity. This involves an IMS like infrasound array in Singapore, along with the expansion of infrasound infrastructure within SE Asia. This project requires data acquisition from regional aviation alert to process subsequent infrasound analysis for event characterisation. The successful candidate will work in a vibrant scientific department, participating in deployments of high-end scientific instrumentation, and involving in strong collaboration and frequent interaction with members of the volcano group and the Center for Geohazards Observation (CGO).

The candidate will work under the supervision of Associate Professor Benoit Taisne with a team of international scientists on the integration of different components. The candidate will develop a framework for automated volcanic event detection, identification and eruption source parameter characterisation using infrasound and satellite analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

SingaKids Pic2Speak utilises AI to generate question-answer pairs from images, providing teachers with a selection tailored to students' needs. These pairs can prompt spoken responses by presenting both the image and the question. The system evaluates responses based on content accuracy, grammatical correctness, and oral delivery (e.g., pronunciation, fluency), offering corresponding feedback. Additionally, the student's engagement level is assessed through speech signals. By considering both engagement and capability, we can provide recommendations and intervention strategies to enhance learning outcomes and interest.

Requirements:

NIE is seeking a dynamic and motivated research assistant to support the development and execution of research and strategic initiatives of the Assessment and Evaluation SGA team.

Responsibilities:

To support the Chairperson of the LIFE@NIE AE SGA and the co-Heads of the NIE Centre for Assessment and Evaluation (CAE) to coordinate various research, teaching and outreach activities and work related to the development of the AE SGA. These include:

• Conducting literature review and proposals related to the field of assessment and evaluation.
• Contribute to the preparation of grants and reports for the SGA’s research projects, management and development.
• Articulate research gaps and future research focal areas in Assessment and Evaluation.
• Organize and conduct events, workshops, seminars and colloquiums with internal and external stakeholders, field experts and representatives from schools and organisations relevant to the SGA.
• Maintain and promote communication with relevant stakeholders that promote SGA works.
• Provide secretarial support for the SGA taskforce, such coordination and notetaking of meetings and other relevant documentation.
• Regular updating and design of publicity resources and guides.
• Any other administrative duties as assigned by the SGA.
• Ensure projects and tasks are completed in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's (preferably Master’s) degree in Education/Psychology/Sociology, or a related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

The Climate Transformation Programme (CTP) aims to develop, inspire and accelerate knowledge-based solutions and educate future leaders to establish the stable climate and environment necessary for resilient, just, and sustainable Southeast Asian societies.
