Job Description

The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with Asst. Prof. Patrick Rebentrost in the intersection of quantum algorithms and optimization, machine learning and/or finance. Sample topics include quantum algorithms for problems in supervised and unsupervised machine learning, algorithmic learning theory, and online learning, and quantum algorithms for financial problems such as portfolio optimization, pricing of financial derivatives, and hedging. The job will include the development of quantum algorithms in these areas, with provable quantum advantages and provable guarantees, when possible, in fault-tolerant models of quantum computation. The job will also include the development of algorithms that are easier to execute on available hardware such as variational and post-variational methods and quantum approximate optimization. • Building upon our ground breaking work in 2D amorphous carbon (Synthesis and properties of free-standing monolayer amorphous carbon (MAC), Nature 577, 199 (2020)), we embark on a bold exploration into the uncharted territory of precisely engineered 3D version of MAC structures. This novel technology, a testament to our team's innovative spirit, holds immense promise for revolutionizing materials science and unlocking a plethora of real-world applications.

1. Nanoscale engineering of 3D graphene foam and its supercapacitor application under extreme working conditions which battery cannot cover. Job Description

A bioinformatician/molecular microbiologist is sought to join a team working on metagenome-resolved biogeography and functional ecology of photosynthetic microbial communities under extreme environmental stress.

The main responsibilities of the position include:
1. Analysis of metagenomic sequence data with various packages using the R statistical environment.
2. General molecular microbiology laboratory work including DNA/RNA extraction, library preparation, and sequence analysis.

The position is available for an initial period of 21 months, with renewal subject to performance and funding availability.

Qualifications

• Qualifications / Discipline:
BSc (hons) required, and preferably a MSc

• Skills:
Competence in using R software for bioinformatic analysis of metagenomes is essential, e.g. MEGAN6. Some laboratory experience in molecular microbiology is also preferred but not essential.

• Experience:
At least one year of experience using computational bioinformatic tools in a research environment is required.
