Positions are available for Post-doctoral Fellows, Research Assistants, and Ph.D. students in the research group of Dr. Soh Siow Ling, at the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS).

The research of the group is highly interdisciplinary and involves soft functional matter, electrostatics, and dynamics (e.g., transport). The research usually involves molecules, polymeric molecules, bulk polymers, and interfaces of polymers. Other types of advanced materials (e.g., inorganic materials) are also considered. The research typically involves a combination of chemistry, materials science, physics, and engineering.

A major area of focus is the separation of charge at interfaces of matter (e.g., solid, liquid, and gas). Phenomena related to interfacial charge separation are very poorly understood; hence, there are tremendous opportunities for fundamental discoveries and development of novel applications. One project in particular is the coupling of advanced types of materials (e.g., including inorganic materials) and charge separation for harvesting energy from nature. Another example involves antistatic surfaces for preventing the adhesion of dust particles on surfaces.

Another area of focus involves functional polymers and stimuli-responsive systems for developing intelligence in materials.

The group aims to publish highly novel and impactful research works. Projects in the group usually involve unique research themes and strong fundamentals, including discovery and understanding of natural phenomena. Based on the fundamental science studied by the group, a wide range of applications are being developed; examples include clean energy, sustainability (e.g., recycling and filtering polluted atmosphere), surfaces with superior properties (e.g., antistatic surfaces), molecular separation, drug delivery, and soft machines.

I Can Read Teacher Responsibilities:

• Working with children between the ages of 2.5 to 12 years old
• Teaching pre-reading skills to children using the I Can Read system
• Teaching reading and comprehension skills using the I Can Read system
• Teaching Academy students a variety of techniques for creating structured compositions, developing critical thinking skills and participating in Mock Exams.
• Travelling between centres to deliver Academy classes which includes hosting online lessons.
• Lesson preparation and marking, including the preparation of appropriate teaching resources and participating in teacher and curriculum meetings on a weekly basis.
• Maintaining regular open communication with parents, through informal, formal and scheduled parent-teacher meetings providing regular updates to parents on students’ performance and progression.
• Conducting ad hoc replacement lessons and one-to-one lessons
• Teaching I Can Read affiliated programmes
• Helping children develop social skills and positive classroom behaviour
• Creating a conducive learning environment for students, safeguarding their wellbeing at all times.
• Working alongside the assessment team to ensure smooth running of open house events.
• Any other ad-hoc duties.

Job Description

Positions are available for Post-doctoral Fellows, Research Assistants, and Ph.D. students in the research group of Dr. Soh Siow Ling, at the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS).

The research of the group is highly interdisciplinary and involves soft functional matter, electrostatics, and dynamics (e.g., transport). The research usually involves molecules, polymeric molecules, bulk polymers, and interfaces of polymers. Other types of advanced materials (e.g., inorganic materials) are also considered. The research typically involves a combination of chemistry, materials science, physics, and engineering.

A major area of focus is the separation of charge at interfaces of matter (e.g., solid, liquid, and gas). Phenomena related to interfacial charge separation are very poorly understood; hence, there are tremendous opportunities for fundamental discoveries and development of novel applications. One project in particular is the coupling of advanced types of materials (e.g., including inorganic materials) and charge separation for harvesting energy from nature. Another example involves antistatic surfaces for preventing the adhesion of dust particles on surfaces.

Another area of focus involves functional polymers and stimuli-responsive systems for developing intelligence in materials.

The group aims to publish highly novel and impactful research works. Projects in the group usually involve unique research themes and strong fundamentals, including discovery and understanding of natural phenomena. Based on the fundamental science studied by the group, a wide range of applications are being developed; examples include clean energy, sustainability (e.g., recycling and filtering polluted atmosphere), surfaces with superior properties (e.g., antistatic surfaces), molecular separation, drug delivery, and soft machines.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate is preferably someone open-minded to unique fields of research, independent, and hardworking. Candidates with a Ph.D. degree from a general background in science and technology, including chemistry, material science, engineering (e.g., chemical, mechanical, etc), are encouraged to apply.
