DESCARTES PROGRAM

The DesCartes programme is developing a hybrid AI, combining Learning, Knowledge and Reasoning, which has good properties (need for less resources and data, security, robustness, fairness, respect for privacy, ethics), and demonstrated on industrial applications of the smart city (digital energy, monitoring of structures, air traffic control).

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Research Fellow will assist with primary legal research in a variety of legal fields associated with cutting edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology research, from innovation and intellectual property laws to data governance (including access to data, data commons, compliance with data protection laws). The Research Fellow will contribute to the development of best practice guidelines and governance systems and participate in research administrative tasks. Requirements

1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, or a related field

2. High proficiency in scripting language (Perl, Python and statistical languages such as R, particularly in the use of packages such as Bioconducter or Biopython)

3. Additional programming skills in Java or C++ will be useful and candidate should be experienced working in Unix environments with computing clusters/servers

4. A strong background and course work in statistics, computer science and data science is preferable

Job Description

Research:

• Carry out assigned experiments
• Organize, preserve and present the results of the experiments in a logical manner
• Record all assigned experiments and results properly and systematically
• Analyze and plan further experiments under guidance
• Assist in supervising, training and guiding attachment/undergraduate students where required

Laboratory:

• To plan and ensure the needs and requirements of the team in terms of consumables
• Ensure that the lab is adequately stocked with clean glassware, minor equipment, chemicals, etc. required for experiments
• Regular checks and maintenance of equipment
• Assemble reagents, chemicals and media that are needed for experiments
• Ensure that standard operating procedures and safety regulations are followed

Administrative duties:

Qualifications

Job Description

This project aims to model the corrosion induced damage process in reinforced concrete. A multi-physics model is envisioned, to capture the ingress of chloride ions, the stress loading on concrete material due to the formation of corrosion products, and the resultant damage in concrete. Meso scale modelling with matrix, ITZ and aggregates will be utilized to understand the interactions between underlying processes.

The candidate is expected to perform the following tasks:

• Develop and implement a multi-physics numerical model for concrete on the diffusion of chloride ions leading to the formation of corrosion products;
• Develop and implement a damage model for concrete to capture the development of cracks in reinforced concrete.

• Possess a PhD degree in a relevant field.
• Has demonstrated experience in at least two of the following topics: Random field generation and modelling/Multi-physics model formulation and numerical implementation/Continuum modelling of corrosion process /Phase-field / nonlocal / gradient damage models.

NUS is looking for a Research Fellow to work on Digital Twin of microgrid (MGDT) with energy management system (EMS).

The job requires the candidate to build the digital twin model of the hybrid microgrid with EMS with different operating conditions of sub-system and its associated equipment before actual implementation. Further, this MGDT will be used for the EV applications, therefore, Smart EV Charging, Energy Storage Management System, Energy Storage System, etc to provide unified experience for operation team will also need to be considered.

Qualifications

• Possess a recognised PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with specialisation in microgrid, or EMS.
• Able to work independently by conducting experiments alone or in teams when required, and possess strong experimental validation experience
• Familiar with working of renewable energy systems, digital twin, energy storage, optimisation and control algorithm development.
• Familiar with state-of-the-art simulation platforms such as MATLAB/Simulink.
