Investment Services Private Markets
The Investment Services Private Markets (ISPVM) is responsible for investment services for the private market across the GIC group. It is responsible for providing operations and reporting support to the private market business of GIC as well as budgeting, accounting, payment processing, cash management, tax and financial and management reporting services to all departments, corporate management companies and the global offices of the GIC group. It is involved in deal structuring and closing, transaction processing, administration and accounting of investment holding companies, review of financial controls for asset operations, cash and securities reconciliation, valuation and financial reporting for assets under management.
Tax
The Tax function in ISPVM is responsible for all tax matters relating to the GIC Group and portfolio. GIC seeks to hire an Associate / Assistant Vice President for the Tax function within ISPVM in Singapore. Reporting to the VP, Investment Tax - Public Markets, the individual will predominantly support the Public Markets investments across the globe.

You will be part of a team that provides investment services on private equity, real estate, infrastructure, and cross-strategy investments.
Responsibilities
- Tax Support to GIC’s Public Markets Investments asset classes
- Deliver early-stage well-rounded tax support when investment teams explore the viability of new opportunities, either via new products or investments. In anticipation of investing into new jurisdictions, facilitates preparatory work with external advisors to determine the availability of tax privileges for GIC and tax structuring alternatives
- Provide timely support to investment teams to ensure tax risks and opportunities are well understood, monitors the quality of final technical advice/opinions, and tax ruling submissions and, if necessary, resolving service issues with advisors
- Maintains tax knowledge pertinent to asset classes that invest across the spectrum of Public Market investments and leverage a network of external advisors to monitor for changes in tax laws and/or administrative practices. Effectively communicate changes in law to investment teams that could impact current or future investments
- Proactively identify best-in-class tax advisors to support the specific needs of the investment teams. On-board advisors, maintain relationships, and monitor performance to ensure advisors deliver to GIC’s service and value expectations
- Collaborate with investment teams and other corporate services departments to ensure that the on-going tax management of investments across the globe meets GIC’s needs. Identify areas of improvement and recommend pragmatic solutions
- Identify opportunities for efficiencies by leveraging technological tools and solutions to streamline workflows and processes
- Broader support across tax strategy and tax risk
- Support the Tax team’s work to advance tax strategic initiatives
- Maintain constructive and strong relationships with key government authorities and tax departments of peer organizations
- Build and deliver a balanced program of core training for investment professionals and other departments to increase their tax awareness and enable them to effectively understand tax issues relevant to their department
- Contribute knowledge of GIC’s tax issues to the delivery of tax risk reporting to the Board, management committees, and various internal stakeholders
- Maintain high standards of effective oral and written communications to internal stakeholders to ensure ease of understanding the relevance to the business
- Collaborating with the Enterprise Tax team in interfacing with the Public Markets investment departments to ensure that GIC’s tax compliance obligations are met
- Actively contributes to the Tax team’s knowledge and technology resources, and share ideas/information with peers
- Lead special projects and initiatives for the Tax team
- Build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships
- Develop, maintain and manage relationships with key individuals within GIC (i.e. Investment Services Public Markets, Legal and Compliance, and other Corporate Services departments) as well as outside of GIC (i.e. Clients, tax advisors and service providers)
- Build and garner the trust and support of investment teams
- Work effectively with colleagues across GIC, tax advisors and service providers
- Promote collaboration and resolution of issues within and across teams
What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role?
- At least 5 to 7 years of income tax experience, with international, Public Markets, financial services and/or M&A tax experience
- An accounting/commerce or law degree with tax knowledge and/or holds the Chartered Accountant (CA) designation or comparable professional credentials
- A strong team player who displays teamwork and collaboration
- Demonstrates strong analytical skills, ability to think broadly and strategically, assess a variety of factors and recommend a pragmatic solution
- A strong communicator (written and oral) who is able to adapt own communication style to different audiences. Proven skill to synthesize complex technical concepts into plain language for non-specialist audiences
- Has strong organizational/project management skills and the ability to progress multiples assignments independently and efficiently
- Has excellent attention to detail and consistently high levels of accuracy
- Demonstrates personal initiative, strives to innovate and build best practices, but is highly attuned to the need for practical solutions
- A continuous learner with a growth mindset who stays on top of business trends, tax technical and tax technology changes
