Scope of Works:

• Ordering and preparation of ingredients and equipment for practical lessons in the food labs
• General cleaning and maintenance of the food labs
• Checking, collating, ordering and receiving of ingredients from supplier
• All other duties as required by the Authority

Requirement:

• PSLE Certificate or equivalent
• 1 yr exp as Food Lab Assistant in Schools
• Follow Food and Beverage Safety and Hygiene Policies

Deployment :

• Mondays to Thursdays: 7.30am to 3.45pm, inclusive of 45mins lunch break
• Fridays: 7.30am to 3.15pm, inclusive of 45mins lunch break

Scope of Works:

• Assist Nutrition & Food Science teachers in food preparation, storage of food and general kitchen maintenance including mopping of floors for all classes and stock check.
• Assist in collation of food orders and liaise with the suppliers e.g., faxing or orders made by teachers.
• Assist in the checking of food delivery, proportioning of ingredients for cooking lessons and stock of food supply.
• Assist teachers during cooking lessons and clean up after lessons.
• Maintain kitchen safety and equipment.
• Assist in maintaining cleanliness of every room in the department
• To do general cleaning e.g., washing of aprons, kitchen towels, etc. and maintenance of kitchen and NFS Hub including mopping of kitchen floors regularly.
• To do stocktake, thorough cleaning of food labs utensils, equipment, and cabinets during holiday periods

Contract period:

2 Jan 2025 to 14 Nov 2025 (10.5 months)

Deployment:

Mon to Fri : 7 am to 1 pm or 8 am to 2 pm (Maximum 6 Hours per day)

Scope of Works:

A. Training/Induction by NFS Teachers

1. Use and general maintenance of the cookers / ovens / grill / microwave ovens / refrigerators.

2. Use and general maintenance of small kitchen appliances, such as blenders, cake mixers, food processors, electric steamers, etc.

3. Use and general maintenance of washing machine.

4. Kitchen terminology and familiarisation with common utensils, such as palette knives, patty tins, vegetable peelers, etc.

5. Food preparation, quantity and portioning for practical lessons.

6. Kitchen and food hygiene (includes proper food handling and storage).

7. Kitchen safety (handling electrical appliances and sharp objects and keeping them safe).

8. Provide update of perishables and dry goods to teachers ordering for the classes.

9. Provide update of kitchen utensils of each unit and main storage areas to teachers.

B. Daily Duties

For Practical Lessons and Examinations:

1. General cleaning of kitchens including cleaning tabletops, sinks, cookers, sweeping and mopping the floor and emptying dustbins.

2. General cleaning of NFS classrooms including cleaning desks, sweeping and mopping the floor and emptying dustbins.

3. Refill washing detergent, and check and ensure all equipment is in place for each work bench.

4. Teachers to brief the week’s practical and recipe with sample of layout given so that the kitchen helper can start preparations for the classes.

5. Preparation of food trays must be done before the lesson, at least half an hour beforehand.

6. Assist teachers during lessons, help to replenish items, clear teachers’ centre tables, assist students with cookers/ovens/grill/blenders/steamers, mop spills etc.

7. After lessons, kitchen helper to help clean up and store food properly. Any leftover ingredients that are still fresh and safe to use can be kept for use in other classes. Prepare food trays for next lesson if needed.

8. After lessons, check that all gas taps are turned off and cookers are switched off, cookers and sinks are clean, rubbish is disposed of, and clear/clean the centre store table.

9. Laundry for kitchen towels/aprons: Wash them in the washing machine and dry them on the rack. Once they are dry, fold them and place on the laundry shelf.

10. Track and record any breakages.

11. Arrange tables and chairs neatly in classrooms.

12. Check all lights, fans and air-conditioner are switched off in all rooms.

13. Assist teachers in any other duties assigned.

Contract Period:

• 24 Months - 1 Jan 2025 to 31 Dec 2026

Deployment:

• Mondays to Thursdays: 7:00am to 4:30pm, inclusive of 1hr lunch break
• Fridays: 7:00am to 4:00pm, inclusive of 1hr lunch break (Tentative working hours, subjected to change based on school time table)
• Service not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays

Scope of Works:

1. Safety in Food Labs

• Assist teachers with the general safety in the food lab i.e. clean up spills on the floor immediately to prevent slips and falls
• Assist teachers with simple first aid treaments such as cuts and burns

2. Receiving food order

• Receive food items ordered by teachers and check the food items against the delivery order
• Pack other food items with appropriate materials and put in the correct storage areas in the food lab
• Keep teachers informed if food items delivered are not in correct quantity or in unacceptable condition.
• Check for food expiry dates and inform teachers accordingly

3. Before and After Practical Lessons of FCE and NFS

• Wipe teachers’ working tables and demonstration table every morning before lessons.
• Clean and maintain the food lab equipment and room after lessons everyday
• Prepare food items and materials needed for practical lessons
• Wash linens that are used for lessons
• Dispose of kitchen refuse from the rubbish bin and lined the bin with trash bag in both labs after practical lessons.

4. Duties during school holidays and events

• Clean and maintain the lab inventory and equipment, report any defects to materials.
• Maintain equipment and utensils of workstations in both Food Laboratories during school holidays and special events

4. To store food ingredients accordingly to food safety standards.
5. To perform inventory checks in NFS Special Rooms.
6. To maintain the quality of utensils and cooking equipment.
7. To upkeep maintenance of NFS Special Rooms (Kitchens, Office, Classroom) including cleanliness of Cookery Room and equipment including cleaning of worktops and mopping of kitchen floor daily.
8. To perform simple office tasks to support teacher in the kitchen or NFS room such as helping to lay out laptops and accounting of ICT peripherals used for teaching & learning thereafter.
9. To perform general cleaning of NFS rooms and other special rooms A&T Special Rooms every Friday and June/Sep school holidays as tasked by HOD in-charge.

Deployment:

• Mondays to Thursday: 7:30am to 5.00pm, inclusive of 1 hour lunch break
• Friday: 7.30am to 4.30pm, inclusive of 1 hour lunch break
• Service not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays

Scope of works:

• Daily cleaning and maintenance of Kitchen 1 and Kitchen 2 at Level 2 (general floor area, kitchen tops, tabletops, kitchen appliances and equipment).
• Preparation of relevant kitchen appliances and equipment for the Nutrition and Food Science practical lessons and examinations.
• Preparation of raw materials and ingredients for the Nutrition and Food Science practical lessons and examinations.
• Maintain and track fixed assets and non-expandable high-risk inventories in Kitchen 1 and Kitchen 2.

• Service not required on Sat, Sun and PH's.

Scope of Service:

Job description including responsibilities, requirement, skills and experience

1. Maintenance of NFS rooms

a. Able to maintain orderliness and ensure cleanliness of the NFS food lab (kitchen), and preparation room. Such as:-

i. washing and drying of cleaning cloth, aprons

ii. cleaning of food science equipment,

iii. cleaning of teachers & students’ work area, for instance sinks, stoves, refrigerators,..etc

iv. mopping of kitchen floor,..etc

b. Organize & tidy teacher and student work unit such as table tops, drawers & sinks after each lesson and any other duties related to the maintenance of the NFS room.

c. Manage the equipment and appliances in the NFS food lab(kitchen) (need to be familiar with food science equipment)

d. Assist in checking that the main gas tap, electrical switches (oven) and knives are kept under lock & key.

2. Food Preparation

a. Able to manage the preparation of ingredients for lessons such as the cutting, weighing and packing of ingredients prior to lesson

b. Organise ingredients and equipment in the kitchen which includes the repacking of ingredients into proper storage areas (refrigerator, cupboards).

c. Take stock of perishable food daily and work closely with the teacher-in-charge.

d. Able to operate some of the kitchen and food science equipment such as hand held blender, electric streamer, rice cooker, refractometer etc.

3. Administrative duties

a. Able to manage the process of accepting and verifying food orders.

b. Able to support all NFS teachers in the food lab(kitchen) at all times (excluding lunch time & scheduled breaks)

4. Any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Requirement:

The Personnel shall minimally have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

· Applicants should have completed primary school education

· 3 years of prior experience in food handling, kitchen, or simple administrative duties in similar educational institutions.

· Should be able to work efficiently and independently.
