Job Description

What you’ll do

The purpose of the role is to support the shipping business and other teams (Shipping + CMT) by measuring the physical and technical operation risk exposures from operations and managing and developing barriers to reduce/eliminate the exposure. This role needs to operate under the guidance of the Safety and Technical operations manager and requires taking ownership of the safety, event management, and technical function of the chartered fleet and providing support to other shipping projects on a case-to-case basis where allocated. The role should be able to operate independently without or little support.

KEY TASKS

Safety

Responsible for the following safety-related activities:

Executing and regularly updating the safety framework around the company’s shipping activity.

Researching the industry and exploring solutions relevant to our operations to enhance safety value proposition and take safety to the next level.

Carrying out timely and prompt engagements with relevant internal and external stakeholders, carrying out a detailed Incident investigation, and preparing a detailed root cause analysis report for sharing with the shipping team, its direct stakeholders, and the broader group.

Conducting independent audits and safety compliance checks on the fleet vessels. This includes visiting ships, calling Singapore, and coordinating inspections with a third-party vendor and owners/managers at other ports. A summary of inspections is to be prepared and presented to the line manager with a recommendation list for the ships/owners. Follow up promptly with these stakeholders to close the inspections.

Schedule and conduct weekly check ins with port captains to go through the inspection observations, develop repeated trends analytics, combine with other inspections, and form action plans for the fleet.

Monitor industry safety standards and update measures on fleet procedures.

Take the lead in collecting information from internal and external sources. Prepare and share safety sharing notices/Flashes/Campaigns relevant to Anglo American Shipping operations and maintain follow-up.

Accountable for the execution of the company's Vetting standards. Be the backup for vetting operations for LATAM region.

Collect and record feedback on operations from vessels, agents, and CMT for all voyages.

Running safety campaigns, surveys, and initiatives on the ships and conducting close follow-ups.

Plan, schedule, and take the lead to conduct data-backed safety interactions with ship owners and other close shipping counterparties.

Execute a Happiness index survey on the chartered fleet.

Comparing and tracking the TC vessel's safety and operational performance monthly.

Monitor weather and routing of Time chartered fleet and provide support and guidance to vessels and operations team to keep our operation risk always to a low level.

Compiling safety performance data of the fleet and preparing a summary of the above for reporting to higher management monthly.

Prepare a safety report for submission to the AASPL board quarterly.

Assist the manager in raising PO and invoices in the Ariba System as requested and follow up on payment until it is completed and closed.

Maintain upkeep of contract for all services under the safety umbrella,

Maintain and keep updated the SOP related to safety, cargo, vetting, Crisis plan and technical operations.

Take the lead on internal platforms like Isometrix, objective and KPI and check the quality of data inputted and frequency of inputs. Follow up with stakeholders to manage the flow and quality of data.

Upkeep the bridging document for Bareboat vessels, keeping the critical controls and priority unwanted event list up to date.

Technical Operations and Regulatory Compliance

· Provide technical information to the Shipping team and CMT to ensure all technical risks are covered.

· Review Ports for Safety and Security risks.

· Assist Manager – Safety & Technical Operations (Shipping) for ensuring the ocean freight activities of Anglo American are in line and compliant with current maritime regulations – including IMO and nation-specific rules and regulations.

· Ensure Bareboat vessels are operated in line with the Anglo-American Technical standards. Yearly assessments are carried out and recorded.

· Provide technical inputs on projects and cargo-related queries as requested.

· Maintaining contact and good working relationships with relevant shipping stakeholders to ensure Anglo-American operations align with best industry practices.

· Responsible for generating performance analysis of all fleet vessels quarterly including but not limited to bunker consumption and routes.

· Provide technical support to functions such as insurance, agency agreements and bunkering.

· Prepare new SOP as required for the business and growing trading demands.

Qualifications

This role requires a high level of experience and knowledge in the maritime industry – with a specific and detailed understanding of the technical and operational aspects of ocean freight activities.

- A degree or qualification in maritime related studies
