SUMMARY OF POSITION OBJECTIVES:

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, this position will be required to perform a variety of laboratory tests and procedures to assist in prevention, diagnosis, treatment of diseases as well as patients monitoring with the clinicians. These tests have a wide range of disciplines, not limited to molecular biology, biochemistry, haematology, immunology, serology and microbiology.

POSITION OBJECTIVES

• Duties include working in pre-analytical, analytical, maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation, technical validation and inventory management.
• Operates and maintains sophisticated instruments and equipment used in the laboratory.
• Able to properly set up, calibrate, maintain, operate and shut down the analytical instruments.
• Perform all procedures in accordance with laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Ensure compliance with all requirements of the Laboratory Safety Manual.
• Ensure that “critical value” is reported and received by appropriate personnel as well as resolve queries from customers.
• Maintains competence in Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Maintains a safe and clean working environment by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
• Participates in Quality Improvement Programs essential to ensure that laboratory testing is accurate, timely and meets customer needs.
• Perform phlebotomy and onsite screening support as required.
• Any other duties as assigned by Laboratory Manager.

Medical Technologists may be assigned to work and/or specialise in the following disciplines:

• Molecular diagnostics – study and techniques used to identify and analyse nucleic acids such as DNA, RNA or proteins at a molecular level for diagnosis of a particular disease or condition.
• Clinical biochemistry - analysis of body fluids such as blood and urine to diagnose, treat and monitor diseases by interpreting the level of different chemicals in samples.
• Haematology – the study of blood cells and their formation in health and disease, and investigating coagulation factors and disorders.
• Immunology - the study of the body's immune systems, functions and disorders and its analysis.
• Serology - the study of blood serum for diagnostic identification of antibodies.
• Microbiology - culturing and identifying micro-organisms and determining antibiotic susceptibility.

The Roles of Medical Technologist I

The Medical Technologist I is responsible for the delivery of quality laboratory results and other outputs, timely reporting of laboratory results, maintenance of instruments and analytical methods performance. The Medical Technologist I report to the Team Leader Laboratory or delegate.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Responsible for the performance of analytical analyses and taking care of equipment and materials used in the execution thereof in Eurofins Central Laboratory in Singapore. The Medical Technologist I have further responsibilities as described hereto.

• Independent performance, processing and reporting of analyses or parts thereof in a correct and accurate manner conforming to authorized work rules.
• Being critical about one's own work methods and the results obtained and checking of the quality of the results with the aid of first line controls.
• Control of instruments, including performing regular maintenance and rectifying of defects/faults in the instrument.
• Timely reporting of faults that cannot be fixed to the Laboratory Manager and/or delegate.
• Assessing, after processing the QC samples using QC software, the accompanying results and presenting them to the LIMS via the interface or manually for first line validation.
• First line validation of analysis results for which the incumbent is competent.
• Timely reporting of the need for reagents and consumables necessary for production and reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor and/or delegate.
• Assist in sample management department if the need arises.
• Maintain the order and tidiness in the workplace.
• Comply with the safety rules and use of personal protective equipment.
• Maintain the quality system of the laboratory by following all the QC in house procedures.
• Be familiar and compliant with all the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
• Update the personal training file.
• Any task assigned by the Team Leader Laboratory and/or delegate.

Authorities

In the context of Eurofins Central Laboratory policy, the Medical Technologist I have decision making responsibilities in reference to:

• Repeat analyses to ensure correctness of the results.
• Investigate QC deficiencies.
• Approve and validate analytical results.
