Job Description

The Assistant Nurse Manager will also be responsible for providing assistance and support to the Nurse Manager in the day-to-day operations, improvements and enhancements of clinical nursing services within the nursing home so as to ensure safe, high quality, efficient and cost-effective care is delivered to residents and their families.

Job Responsibilities

• Organise and provide on-the-job training to all staff to ensure there is continual development in the clinical aspects

• Manage and facilitate project teams to keep up-to-date on current trends

• Facilitate and guide staff in establishment and management of relationships with residents and their families and coordinate the administration of care plan between the parties involved

• Guide and teach the nurses on the process and steps to manage incident reporting activities including investigation, report writing and communicating response to the family members involved

• Provide advice and guidance to nurses on the management of complaints and enquiries lodged by residents and their families

Clinical Standards

• Responsible for the compliance of all nursing standards as stipulated by Ministry of Health and Singapore Nursing Board

• Leads quality assurance activities to monitor and evaluate the quality and appropriateness of nursing care

• Ensure quality audits are planned and conducted periodically. Follow up with areas for corrective improvements

• Promotes evidence-based practices or nursing care delivery

• Ensure written policies and procedures and work process are available and up to date to guide the nursing care delivery

• Ensure competency evaluation and conducting in-house training to impart clinical knowledge to less experienced nursing staff

Others

• Organise and facilitate projects and/or research on current issues and trends in the healthcare sector (e.g. infection control)

• Support the Nurse Manager in nursing home management and deputizes in his/her absence

Job Requirements

• Degree or Advance Diploma or Diploma in Nursing

• State Registered Nurse and valid practicing licensed issued by the Singapore Nursing Board

• Valid certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)

• 5-6 years of clinical experience out of which 2-3 years must be in the management of chronic patients or 2-3 years as a Senior Staff Nurse

• Possess initiative, drive and self-motivation to persevere and make things happen

• Able to work effectively with diverse teams and all levels of employees to achieve positive outcomes

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(A) SPECIFIC (80%)

1. Review each patient’s medication chart or prescription for the appropriateness of the drugs prescribed and to contact the prescribing doctor when an intervention is needed. The review has to ensure that:All orders are clear and specific doses are prescribed within therapeutic limits, and any potential adverse reactions and interactions are identified
2. Fulfill all drug orders accurately and in a timely manner.
3. Ensure that all related costs and revenue are accounted for, and accurately recovered.
4. Dispense medications to patients, explaining the indications for drug therapy and instructions for administration.
5. Provide drug information to other healthcare professionals.
6. Delegate, oversee and review the work of assigned subordinates.
7. Ensure that all sales and supply of medicinal products comply with legal requirements:Records pertaining to all phases of drug receipt, supply, storage and distribution are maintained as required by the hospital and/or legal authorities.
   Performs inspections of drug storage areas throughout the hospital.

(B) GENERAL (20%)

1. Actively participate in Pharmacy education and development programmes.
i. Provide lectures to Pharmacy staff and other hospital employees on pertinent topics.
ii. Practices continued reading of journals, publications, etc for professional advancement.
2. Responsible for the implementation and adherence to policies, practices and regulations established by the department, hospital and external regulatory agencies pertaining to pharmacy.
3. Provide relevant training to pre-registration pharmacists and pharmacy students.
4. Support the hospital by participating actively in the various activities organized by the hospital. Activities include QC, community projects, staff welfare and recreational activities and etc.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

(A) EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from an accredited University recognized by the Singapore Pharmacy Council.
• 1 - 2 years' experience working in a public healthcare institution is preferable

(B) PROFESSIONAL LICENCE

• Registered with the Singapore Pharmacy Council.
• Valid practicing certificate.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(A) SPECIFIC (90%)

• Assist the pharmacist in the processing of medication orders for inpatient and outpatient dispensing which includes typing, packing, labeling and distribution of drug supplies to the wards and other hospital departments.
• Perform billing functions and ensures that cost and revenue of all stocks supplied are recovered.
• Assist the pharmacist in the processing of medication orders for sterile and extemporaneous preparations according to USP guidelines.
• Compounding of antibiotic infusers, eye drops, syringe preparations and topical creams according to the prescriptions and orders.
• Ensure maintenance, sanitation and organization of clean room and related equipment according to policies and procedures.
• Dispenses medicines under the supervision of a pharmacist.
• Monitor and maintain inventory stock level of drugs in the areas of work.
• Receive, unpack and check deliveries against the appropriate documents, to ensure that items supplied are correct and accounted for.
• Perform stock receipts and issues in FIFO order.
• Assist in providing quality customer service.
• Maintains the cleanliness of the work areas and prepare these for daily operations.
• Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
• *Staff may be assigned to Unit Dose Packaging where they will instead have greater focus on the following duties:
• (UDP) Perform medication repackaging and quality checks as part of pharmacy automation system in accordance with repackaging procedures.
• (UDP) Assist the Unit Dose Packaging Pharmacy In Charge in ensuring the smooth running of UDP operations, including manpower allocation, production job planning, handling enquiries from wards and perform simple troubleshooting of the automation machines.

(B) GENERAL (10%)

• Assist in orientating and training new staff assigned to the section.
• Assist pharmacist in managing the operations in the assigned section.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

(A) EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

1. Certificate in Pharmacy Technician Course (Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore) or Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent (clinical track highly preferred).
