Fellowship in Vascular Surgery

The Department of Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery, National University Hospital is seeking candidates for our fellowship in Vascular Surgery under National University Heart Centre, Singapore. We are a 1,400 bed hospital with full range of vascular surgery services. There are 6 Consultant surgeons in the vascular division. We have an aortic center which offer full range of open, endovascular as well as hybrid surgery and both cardiac and vascular surgeons worked closely together. The vascular unit performs over 1,600 procedures in all aspect of vascular surgery. The fellowship will be at registrar/senior registrar level and you are expected to do on call at frequency of 1:4 Rota to 1:5.

We welcome international candidates who have previous vascular experience and looking for further opportunities to enhance their vascular and endovascular skills. As we are an academic unit of vascular surgery, fellows are expected to participate in research and teaching. Depending on candidates’ previous skills set, we offer basic, intermediate and advanced vascular fellowships. Understanding the pharmaco/nutrico/toxicokinetic behaviour of drugs, chemicals and food ingredients is a fundamental step in assessing the efficacy and safety of these materials. It can be challenging to study such substances directly in human subjects, while animal models lack direct translatability to humans due to inherent differences in species biology. One promising strategy is the use of physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modelling to predict the local tissue and systemic exposure of these substances. We have developed in-house in vitro and in silico tools to model chemical absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) in humans using data generated from in vitro assays. We apply these tools to predict pharmacokinetic profiles in different settings, ranging from oral or transdermal administration to studying special populations such as pregnant women, for a variety of substances including pharmaceuticals, food ingredients, environmental contaminants, essential micronutrients and microbial metabolites. These capabilities are further enhanced with state-of-the-art, enabling technologies such as the SHIME® intestinal digestion simulator and spatial mass spectrometry imaging.

The following tasks are expected of the candidate:

• Literature search to extract relevant ADME data for chemicals of interest
• Perform in vitro absorption, transporter, metabolism, fraction unbound and other related ADME assays
• Quantify membrane protein, metabolic enzyme and xenobiotic concentrations within biological samples using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) instruments
• Integrate appropriate in vitro and in silico data into PBPK models to predict the ADME of chemicals
• Develop new and/or improve features of in-house models, including pharmacodynamic modelling
• Write scientific grant proposals, maintain laboratory notebooks, prepare scientific reports, presentations and manuscripts
• Supervise and train students and interns

Qualifications

• PhD in Pharmaceutical Science, Life Sciences or equivalent.

• Conduct functional behaviour analysis and develop Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs)
• Conduct screening assessments related to school admission, vocational and other Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) related assessments
• Conduct/purchase standardized assessments, develop and finetune screening and informal assessments for school services such as Mental Capacity Assessment (MCA), Placement Screening Exercise (PSE) and any other standardized assessments that can only be administered by a registered educational psychologist

Intervention

• Plan and execute intervention programmes for students with autism in group or individual setting
• Coach key partners to apply educational and behavioural techniques to carry out intervention plans at home and in class
• Provide behavior management support to students and attend to school student behavior crisis line
• Provide classroom behaviour management support if necessary to support the student and the class
• Coordinate activities related to case management of students
• Facilitate training for caregivers / staff
• Any other responsibilities required by your Supervisor

Leadership Duties

• To articulate the Autism Therapist's/Psychologist’s role, scope and responsibilities to teachers, other school professionals, administrators, support personnel, families and the community
• To positively influence the development of programs and policies & procedures to promote best practice in Autism Therapists service provision
• To be directly involved in the assessment of needs and development of Autism Therapists services to meet priority needs areas in consultation with leaders
• To establish and maintain professional linkages to the national and international Psychology Professional bodies.

Understanding the pharmaco/nutrico/toxicokinetic behaviour of drugs, chemicals and food ingredients is a fundamental step in assessing the efficacy and safety of these materials. It can be challenging to study such substances directly in human subjects, while animal models lack direct translatability to humans due to inherent differences in species biology. One promising strategy is the use of physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modelling to predict the local tissue and systemic exposure of these substances. We have developed in-house in vitro and in silico tools to model chemical absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) in humans using data generated from in vitro assays. We apply these tools to predict pharmacokinetic profiles in different settings, ranging from oral or transdermal administration to studying special populations such as pregnant women, for a variety of substances including pharmaceuticals, food ingredients, environmental contaminants, essential micronutrients and microbial metabolites. These capabilities are further enhanced with state-of-the-art, enabling technologies such as the SHIME® intestinal digestion simulator and spatial mass spectrometry imaging.

The following tasks are expected of the candidate:

• Literature search to extract relevant ADME data for chemicals of interest
• Perform in vitro absorption, transporter, metabolism, fraction unbound and other related ADME assays
• Quantify membrane protein, metabolic enzyme and xenobiotic concentrations within biological samples using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) instruments
• Integrate appropriate in vitro and in silico data into PBPK models to predict the ADME of chemicals
• Develop new and/or improve features of in-house models, including pharmacodynamic modelling
• Write scientific grant proposals, maintain laboratory notebooks, prepare scientific reports, presentations and manuscripts
• Supervise and train students and interns

Qualifications

• PhD in Pharmaceutical Science, Life Sciences or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of ADME and pharmacokinetic concepts is essential.
• Prior experience in in vitro ADME assays and analytical mass spectrometry workflows is desirable.
• Prior experience with PBPK tools such as Simcyp®, GastroplusTM, PK Sim, Matlab/Simbiology or other models is desirable.
• Able to work in a multi-disciplinary team, possess strong organizational and project management skills, demonstrate initiative and able to work independently.
