As a Data Center Design Manager you will be part of a global engineering leadership team, comprised of highly effective Architects, Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Control Engineers. AWS drives the engineering on our capacity delivery projects. This unique vantage point allows the Design Managers to maintain a close connection with project details and drive project outcomes. You will have impact on the design direction and ability to improve design delivery for all APAC projects, while establishing design procedures and protocols for the development of future systems. This role is an opportunity to collaborate with many facets of the AWS organization, external engineering resources and regulatory agencies.

Key job responsibilities

• Leading a team of engineers in the design of data center critical infrastructure systems
• Facilitating weekly meetings with internal engineer resources, internal customers and external consultants to address design issues, meet design milestones and escalate as needed.
• Driving process improvements.
• Creating and tracking metrics related to cost, quality and duration of design as well as collecting data from construction and commissioning teams as designs are implemented.
• Establishing capital project design budgets and contributing to complex business cases for existing region and new region deployment.
• Collaborating with AWS finance teams to secure funding for projects.
• Working in partnership with AWS Engineering leads to schedule engineering resources and influence design changes based on internal customer needs.
• Partnering with internal customers to establish project scope, schedule and deliverables.
• Managing document controller’s workflow and audit of deliverables

Architects and Engineers in AWS work to design resilient, cost effective and sustainable DC facilities. As an Architect at Amazon Asia-Pacific Resources Private Limited (Singapore) (AARPL), you will have the opportunity to impact changes in our current design, as well as establish design procedures and protocols for future systems in Singapore.

The Civil, Structural and Architectural (CSA) design team in AARPL is responsible for the building design of all Amazon DCs in Singapore. The CSA team is seeking a senior Architect to become part of our growing APAC team. As a subject matter expert, you will have a direct impact on the design of prototypical DC facilities in Singapore, provide technical guidance to team members, solve large scale implementation issues, site master planning and build a strong understanding of national and international design requirements.

Key job responsibilities
• Work with the other design and engineering professionals on concepts and build projects.
• Manage a portfolio of data center designs and features.
• Development and maintenance of Basis of Design, prototype design, and template specifications for architectural/civil/structural elements.
• Create architectural/civil/structural design RFPs.
• Manage the work of our external architectural/civil/structural design consultants.
• Coordinate with internal and external MEP design engineers.
• Lead initiatives aimed at improving cost, quality, schedule, and consistency.
• Work on multiple data center build and capital improvement projects simultaneously.
• Travel for site assessments, consultant selection activities, internal design meetings, construction review, and to interface with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), design consultants, quantity surveyors, and building owners.
• Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%.
• Perform and present business case analysis.
• Motivated, dependable and capable of working with limited oversight.

Basic qualifications

• Accredited Architecture degree
• 10+ years of Industrial Facilities and 5+ years of experience in design of mission critical facilities.
• Working experience with MEP engineering consultants with working knowledge and experience with large scale mechanical and power systems.
• Vendor and consultant management skills and Solid working proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and MS Office Suite.
• Proficiency in building codes, regulations and standards with relevant local councils.

Preferred qualifications

• Master’s degree in Architecture.
• Licensed Architect in an APAC Jurisdiction
• 2+ years of experience in Data Center design.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate the constructability of new technologies, and determine construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
• Proficiency in building codes, regulations, and standards across the APAC region.
