JOB PURPOSE
This role reports to the Chief Information Officer or Senior Director, Application Development. Leads development, implementation, and maintenance of logistics software and integrations that is central to the operations of APLL.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Functional Strategy Formation and leadership
- Develop the strategy for a significant area of responsibility such as a function, anticipating complex issues, challenges and opportunities. Ensure the strategy is successfully implemented and meets medium-term business needs.
- Lead the development and implementation of strategy for a significant area of responsibility, anticipating complex issues, challenges, and opportunities, and ensuring integration with wider corporate strategy.
Landscape Scanning and System Architecture Development
- Scan the external environment for new systems, technologies, trends to assess and identify potential application and benefits for APLL
- Assess current state of Logistics technology technology landscape and determine requirements for systems architecture and roadmap
- Drive advances in technologies and architectures to increase the value delivered by technology and digital capabilities, either through improvements to the efficiency of technology environment or through those that reduce the total cost of technology operations.
System Development
- Engage with product owners and other key stakeholders to understand pain points is existing Logistics systems and processes
- Lead discussions to identify process and technology solutions and approaches to address gaps and pain points in Logistics systems and processes

- Lead the development and implementation of strategy for a significant area of responsibility, anticipating complex issues, challenges, and opportunities, and ensuring integration with wider corporate strategy.
- Develop proposals for adoption and implementation of new Logistics systems and technologies, and present to Senior Management for approval
- Assign and hold project managers responsible for smooth and successful technical implementation of new systems and technologies
- Review project progress for implementation of new systems and technologies at key milestones, including development, user testing, integration with existing systems
- Review effectiveness of new systems and technology implementation periodically by reviewing user feedback
Vendor Management
- Oversee vendor selection and procurement processes for adoption of new systems and technologies, ensuring value and commercial sense for APLL
- Establish vendor selection criteria and lead vendor selection for key projects and services to ensure robust performance outcomes and value for APLL's investment
- Build and sustain relationships with key vendors and technology partners to ensure APLL has a robust and diversified technology vendor pool which ensures competitive financial terms and performance outcomes for key projects
- Oversee evaluation of vendor performance and take steps to address gaps by holding vendors accountable to deliver to agreed performance criteria
System Operations
- Establish standards and objectives for the management of APLL's Logistics systems and technologies
- Hold operational teams accountable for management of Logistics systems as per established Service Level Agreements
- Oversee outsourcing of system operations capabilities where viable from technical and financial perspective
Team and People Management
- Lead capability building for the team to ensure the team has the right skills to deliver against current and emerging requirements
- Provide feedback and opportunities for development to staffwithin own team
EDUCATION
BS in Computer science, Information Technology or related field
EXPERIENCE
General Experience
10+ years leading a software development team with previous experience as a programmer or solution architect. Experience delivering solutions for logistics business domain is a plus. Must have experience managing projects, including cost estimation, cost tracking, resource planning, risk management, status reporting, product selection, contract execution and procurement. Experience in vendor management including contract execution, performance oversight and negotiation.
