As a Lead Engineer in our team, you would architect, implement, and roll out our next generation of Grab platform for merchants.

Get to Know the Role

The Business Platform tech family is an engineering team which is responsible for multiple key products for Grab Merchant Partners (e.g GrabMerchant App, GrabMerchant Portal). We are running on a micro-service architecture in backend and are also providing multiple frontend techniques (e.g. IOS, ADR, Flutter, Web) for our end users (e.g. Merchants, to-B partners) across 7 countries. We are aiming to provide a high quality, stable, and efficient platform for merchants, and extend our platform to support offline transactions for merchants.

You are expected to understand the requirements from different partners, and work with the team to design and improve the system architecture which could adapt to multiple business flows, and also serve high throughput (thousands of QPS) at millisecond latencies. You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager and be based onsite in our Singapore One North Office.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• Develop APIs, interfaces, and database schemas to ensure scalability, maintainability, and performance across the Business services domain.
• Design, implement, instrument, and deploy available services with tight Service level agreements, and champion for operational excellence across projects.
• Collaborate with partners across teams and roles, to resolve ambiguous, multi dimensional business, legal, and product needs to ensure Business Platform architectures are not just performant and usable, but also compliant.
• Lead architecture reviews, code reviews, design reviews, postmortems, and improve for engineering best practices across teams and tech families.
• Identify process gaps and establish engineering processes — project management, collaboration, code quality.
• Mentor and be a role model for junior engineers.
• Participate in interview loops to help Grab continue hiring top industry talent.

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• 7+ years of relevant experience.
• Prior experience designing, implementing and maintaining critical backend services with tight SLAs, at scale.
• Proficient in at least one programming language for backend services Go, Java or C++.
• Knowledge in distributed systems design and internals.
• Prior experience with any / all of Kafka, ElasticSearch, Redis, MySql, Aurora, and managed cloud services (specifically, AWS and Azure).
• Experience approaching a problem from different angles, analyzing pros and cons of different solutions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

We are looking for an Android Engineer to take part of the Team. You will be responsible for ensuring high quality deliverables, spanning across multiple key services powering end to end user journeys across all the different products of our superapp. These services are one of the top entry points for Grab services, with millions of visitors every day across 8 countries in total. We're seeking candidates who embody accountability, display a relentless hunger for learning and improvement, thrive in autonomy, and possess the drive to consistently go above and beyond expectations.

The Day-to-Day Activities

• Design and write high quality and well tested code in RxJava, Kotlin.
• Collaborate with mobile and backend engineers, designers, data scientists and product managers to architect and implement features
• Actively participate in code and design reviews to maintain our high development standards
• Brainstorm innovative ideas, identify problems, propose and implement solutions geared towards scale and performance
• Take initiative to improve the codebase proactively. Propose and set better engineering solutions for the team.
• Be part of on-call rotation and support the Grab application, debug and troubleshoot production issues.

The Must-Haves

• 2+ years of professional Android development experience
• Solid computer science fundamentals in algorithms and data structures
• Experience in the delivery of an end-to-end feature
• Experience in mobile applications and global understanding of systems internals and tools like crash analytics, performance tools, debugging and continuous integration.
• Possess excellent communication, sharp analytical abilities with proven design skills, able to think critically of the current system in terms of maintainability and stability

As TPM for the APEX team, you will be working with dynamic engineering teams who are on a mission to build Services and Tools that will empower and scale across every engineering team at Grab.

The day-to-day activities:

• General project and program management - define and drive project timelines, milestones, track & report progress, resolve impediments.
• Quarterly roadmap planning and prioritization.
• Deliver programs that span across multiple cross-functional Engineering teams.
• Continuously find ways to help teams and the organization improve how it delivers.
• Facilitate Technical whiteboard sessions to troubleshoot project implementation details and remove blockers for the team.

The must haves:

• At least 8 years of expereince in Technical Program Management or a similar technical leadership role in the Tech Industry.
• Manage a variety of complex, cross-functional programs and lead all aspects of assigned program delivery.
• As a TPM, you will be working with a team focusing on building Infrastructure, platforms, and technologies for various Grab internal teams whose mission is to build products that impact the lives of millions of passengers, drivers, and merchants every day.
• Create and maintain the Delivery Roadmap for the teams you work closely with, along with the respective Tech Managers and Tech leaders.
• Define how to drive these programs and continuously find ways of improving this process in a data-driven manner.
• Embrace Grab’s culture and principles and promote an environment which embodies Grab’s Principle and Values.
• Project/Program delivery with a strong technical leadership background in various Cloud Product suites such as AWS/Azure/GCP etc.

• 4+ years of professional software development experience including at least 2 years of iOS development experience
• Proficiency in programming paradigms like OOP, TDD, reactive programming, and dependency injection.
• Understanding and experience with architectural approaches including MVVM or VIPER.
• Proven experience owning an end-to-end feature.
• Experience writing maintainable and testable code that includes excellent API design, unit testing, and UI testing techniques.
• Understanding and working with large-scale applications and systems internals along with tools like crashlytics, remote debugging, and continuous integration.
• Accountability with strong ownership of personal work and performance.
