A system administrator is a professional who is responsible for the installation, configuration,
maintenance, and security of IT systems and networks.
• Installing and updating operating systems, software, and hardware on servers and
workstations
• Monitoring and troubleshooting system performance, availability, and security issues
• Managing user accounts, permissions, and access rights
• Implementing backup and recovery strategies and procedures
• Documenting system configurations, policies, and procedures
An IT specialist system administrator role in the areas of Wintel and middleware may require
the following additional tasks:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Application onboarding and configuring of database servers according to best practices.
• Designing and maintaining high availability solutions like replication and failover setups is vital to ensure database uptime. Engineers also plan for disaster recovery scenarios to minimize data loss.
• Schedule regular backups, test recovery procedures, and ensure data integrity to minimize downtime in case of system failures.
• Monitor database performance and identify bottlenecks or areas of improvement. This includes analysing query performance, optimizing database schema, and adjusting server settings to ensure optimal performance.
• Keeping PostgreSQL up to date with the latest patches and versions is crucial for security and feature enhancements. Support Engineers plan and execute upgrades carefully to avoid disruptions.
• Plan for database growth by assessing current usage patterns and making scaling recommendations.

• Experience in cloud databases (e.g. AWS RDS).

1. Good knowledge of Windows operating systems for Servers and PCs.

3. Good knowledge of Active Directory (FSMO, Site replication).

4. Good knowledge of Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).

5. Good knowledge of Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS).

8. Knowledge of MS SharePoint 2010/2013.

9. Knowledge on VMware.

10. Knowledge of basic networking concepts.

Knowledge in the following area will be an added advantage:

1. Must have working experience in supporting Windows Servers.

2. Managed 20-30 Windows Servers in current or past employment.

3. Experience in IT Security Infrastructure solutions, security processes/procedures and audit compliant.

4. Proven, demonstrable skills in infrastructure system design, implementation, and integration in operationally sensitive production environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Administer, maintain and support complex IT systems, including servers, storage, and networks

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (for Senior System Administrator)
• 5+ years of experience in system administration (for Senior System Administrator)
• Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems
• Experience with network administration, including routing and switching
• Strong understanding of virtualization technologies (Hyper-V)
• Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure) will be a plus
