2025 Graduate Trainee Program (Finance Track):

This is an 18-month program designed to equip you with foundational knowledge and professional skills in the Finance and Risk departments. The program begins with a 1-year rotation in Business Controlling department where you will learn about the core Trading and Merchandizing activity performing Daily Position, P&L Reporting and supporting Month-End closing and other business focused analysis. 

This will be followed by two 3-month rotations in other Functions such as Credit Risk, Tax, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Finance Processes & Systems Optimisation (FPSO) and Internal Control depending on business needs.  Through practical projects and mentoring from leaders in the team, you would gain deeper understanding of the broader business and competencies that are essential to furthering your career growth.

Finally, the program also includes a mid-rotation assignment to Treasury Department where the Trainee will participate in LDCs annual Bank Syndication program which will give exposure to strategy of all Platforms (Businesses lines) and the institutional loan market.

Depending on individual performance, you could expect to develop professionally in any of the Finance or Risk functions depending on business needs, personal interest and at the conclusion of the program.

Key Department Rotations and Responsibilities:

Business Controlling:

• Prepare, monitor, and analyse the daily P&L and positions for assigned platforms/business units
• Assist Platform Controllers to produce Weekly and Monthly P&Ls and provide Daily and Monthly Commentary on Platform performance
• Ensure an accurate monthly closing in accordance with internal deadlines and reporting requirements

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A):

• Assist in the preparation of annual budgets for Singapore and Malaysia, focusing on topics of G&A, Capex, Net Interest
• Input budget and landing data into the Global financial reporting system
• Assist Regional FP&A Manager in coordinating and managing the Budget and Landing process for South and South-East Asia including preparing regional presentations and variance analysis
• Produce ad-hoc management reporting for Regional Management including Trend Analysis, Year-on-Year Comparatives and KPI monitoring

Finance Processes and Systems Optimization (FPSO):

• Assist with system projects and implementation and user support to Functional users
• Assist with automation and data visualisation projects

Tax:

• Assist in income tax return preparation and filings, ensuring compliance with deadlines
• Respond to tax authority queries, defending historical commercial/tax positions taken
• Offer ad-hoc business advisory and support to the Regional Tax team as required

Credit Risk:

• Spreading counterparty Financial Statements into LDC Scorecard
• Conducting counterparty business research, information gathering for trade requests/credit reviews
• Ensure exposure accuracy in weekly reports and follow-up with various stakeholders/front-end systems

Internal Control:

• Support Trade-to-Cash (TTC) monitoring and risk assessment
• Assist in assessing and analysing key control focus areas and support on other ad-hoc internal control projects

Requirements:

• Recent graduates with Degree in Accounting/Finance/Business or equivalent, and with strong academic records are welcome to apply

Acting as a CFO for a dynamic and exciting region, you will lead the finance function to unlock the potential of Asia, deliver the short-term financial commitments and long-term strategic goals of Materials Group Asia Pacific (MG AP) under “ADQuest” which represents the journey toward these goals, emphasizing the importance of both learnings and achievements. You will partner with the Senior VP/ GM and the regional leadership teams, at both finance and chief operating capacity, to ensure goals and objectives are met and support the overall strategic, annual operating plan and forecasting processes. With the strong support from the Corporate finance functions, Shared Service Organisation (SSO), controllership, tax and treasury, you will go beyond reporting but adds value to the business through providing superior insights with financial data, identifies and supports opportunities and risks and helps set the financial direction.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for shaping the finance function to drive excellence and productivity, leveraging on digitalisation. Managing all accounting and financial activities, with strong coordination with SSO and other Corporate Finance Functions.

ABOUT THE ROLE

RESPONSIBILITIES

FP&A, Audit, Tax, Finance

• Lead annual planning and budgeting process across the Company.
• Oversee annual audit process and relationships with audit and valuation firms.
• Oversee handling of all matters involving tax authorities, including required filings, submissions, reporting, and ad hoc requests.

• Oversee capital calls, cash management, and other treasury functions.

• Develop a practical yet robust framework for monitoring, analysis, and reporting on the financial and operational performance of the Company.
• Analyze performance (year-over-year, sequentially, vs. forecast) in various formats to facilitate decisions that drive business results. 
• Oversee the preparation of accurate financial reports as well as the timely completion and submission of monthly management reports, quarterly reporting to our parent company, and annual filings to regulatory authorities.

Forecasting & Modeling

With the investments team:

• Develop a practical yet robust framework for portfolio performance monitoring and reporting.
• Stay abreast of material developments within the portfolio companies (planned and actual), especially as relevant for audit/valuation purposes.
• Review and analyze portfolio company financial reporting, to identify and plan for potential impacts to investment models and forecasts.
• Maintain investment models to inform investment pacing, capital allocation/reserve strategy, and portfolio management decisions.
• Forecast fund performance under various scenarios.
• Develop rolling investment plans, to effectively plan for and manage capital calls.

Team Management

• Manage team of direct reports - Finance Manager and key external business partners (accounting, audit, valuation, banking).
• Instill a ‘customer-service’ oriented attitude and culture across the team, so the team serves as a valued-added business resource hub for employees and key partners.

Strategic Leadership

• Collaborate with leadership on planning and execution of strategic initiatives.
• Monitor and report on relevant regulatory developments, market practices, and business opportunities. 
• Effectively communicate and present financial matters to senior leadership and to the board of directors.

• Develop financial management policies and procedures; lead process improvement efforts to further streamline without compromising quality and ensuring compliance with regulations, market standards, and best practices.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
• Experience with complex consolidations of portfolio companies or entities, ideally in an investment firm setting.

• At least 10 years of management experience in roles requiring oversight of a combination of critical back-office functions, including accounting, in a VC/PE/IB firm.

• At least 5 years of experience in a controller function with audit liaison (or Big 4 audit) experience and serving as the final check for integrity of financial data and reports.
• Experience selecting and managing the quality and cost of outsourced business services and strategic vendors.
• Technology-savvy with experience implementing and overseeing (1) business automation, (2) new systems (e.g. Finance and project management software systems), and (3) policy/SOP rollouts within an SME context.
• Highly analytic, methodical, and problem-solving approach that supports and enables efficient and effective decision-making amongst multiple stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, partnering, and relationship-building skills with a proven ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a wide range of internal and external partners, including our portfolio companies.
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills; comfortable interacting and communicating with executive and senior management levels.
