UWCSEA Dover seeks to hire a dynamic and experienced Director of Activities and Sports to continue the development of an outstanding Activities Programme and to facilitate the coordination and further development of Sports at the College.
This role will be accountable for the development, leadership and management of the Campus Activities programme. The position is a significant leadership role and the incumbent will be a member of the extended Dover Leadership Team (DLT). This role will engage the leadership team for Dover Campus Activities and Sports, collaborate with school principals and build meaningful partnerships with third party providers. It will also involve significant liaison with the Singapore community and the South East Asian International schools community.
There will be a small Physical Education teaching commitment associated with the role.
Main Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Coordinate all aspects of the activity programme within the school to ensure that all students have access to a broad and balanced programme.
- Lead, design, and implement the K-12 Activity Programme at UWCSEA Dover.
- Assist the School Leadership Teams in developing strategic plans and policies for activities and ensure DLT are engaged in discussions of developments with the programme.
- Develop the community activity programmes (external and internal programmes), building close connections with the local Singapore community and developing participation, opportunity, and access.
- Take the lead role in liaison with the COO team, for the development and maintenance of compliance in both financial and operational areas of the Activities programme.
- Member of the Extended Dover Leadership Team.
Leading Learning:
- Managing curriculum planning, delivery, monitoring, and assessment of Activities programmes.
- Monitor student involvement in Activities together with parent and student satisfaction surveys.
- Plan and oversee the implementation of high-quality professional development for all. Develop and embed standards of inclusivity and excellence in all team members, ensuring Performance Management/PLP is a development tool for all.
- Work with Heads of Service to provide data supporting DLT in ensuring all academic staff contribute to the Activity and Service elements of the Learning Programme in line with College expectations.
Leading Teams:
- Take overall responsibility for recruitment, induction, safeguarding, and safety within the Activities team. Liaise with the Outdoor Education and Service Teams to develop consistent approaches towards external providers.
- Line manages the School Activities and Sports coordinators, Community Activity Programme coordinator; Heads of Tennis, Gymnastics, Swimming, Basketball, and Climbing, ensuring strategic planning and shared goals.
- Build a collaborative, diverse, and inclusive team culture.
Leading Self and Others:
- Take responsibility for the safety and well-being of students and staff across the full activity programme and activities facilities.
- Liaise with Heads of Dance, Drama, and Music in relation to their interface with the Activities programme, maintaining strong representation of all areas and ensuring proper scheduling, to achieve the “best fit” possible when scheduling multiple events in a busy calendar and reviewing the cumulative demands on individual students to ensure a balanced experience.
Operational Leadership:
- Oversee the organisation of fixtures for Representative Sports at the College.
- Oversee the administration of the Activities Programme, ensuring breadth and depth of choice, in partnership with the Activities Manager.
- Oversee the NYAA programme in partnership with the NYAA coordinator.
- Oversee the MUN programme in partnership with the MUN coordinator.
- Administer and develop the Community Activities programme and the Holiday Activities Programme, including residential camps at holiday times.
- Be responsible for the compilation and oversight of planning and timetabling of the activities programme in collaboration with Activities and Sports leaders.
- Implement existing policies and develop new ones where necessary, focusing on staffing, supervision, health and safety, risk assessment, and student safeguarding.
- Liaise with the Health and Safety team to ensure activity venues are safe and comply with safety recommendations.
- Provide financial governance for setting and monitoring activity budgets. Liaise with the COO team to deliver effective tracking and resource monitoring.
- Oversee the maintenance of activity resources, venues, and equipment.
- Monitor, review, and improve the CIMS in liaison with the Director of ICT.
- Monitor and further develop rental income from external providers.
- Oversee the provision of information for students, parents and staff

Qualifications
- Qualified teacher and have a minimum tertiary level qualification at degree level
Experience and Knowledge
- Experience as Head of Activities or a similar role
- In-depth understanding of activities & sports budgeting including capital and operational cost projection and review systems
- Broad and comprehensive understanding of sports training systems, theories and practices
- Understanding and application safeguarding procedures and policies in a school setting.
- Comprehensive understanding of a variety of methods / systems of collecting data to measure the effectiveness of activities & sports programmes
- Comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles of how best to communicate to a school and wider community, maximising both College and Activities specific communications systems.
