As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.

This role is funded by a Pharma Innovation Programme Singapore (PIPS) research grant. The primary responsibility of the role is to deliver a novel software solution, which supposedly will run on discrete-event simulation (DES) and deep reinforcement learning (DRL) optimization algorithms, to help pharmaceutical companies enhance the agility of their multi-product manufacturing process in an uncertain environment. To this end, by working closely with subject matter experts from the PIPS member companies (i.e., GSK, MSD, Pfizer, and Syngenta), you will:

• design and execute survey / interviews with subject matter experts to understand the agreed aspects of agility and use them as the basis for this project
• develop the DES model libraries on the AnyLogic platform to simulate different kinds of activities involved in the full pharmaceutical supply chain
• develop the DES plant model optimizer using explainable DRL algorithms with user-defined objective functions
• demonstrate the utility against company-supported use cases
• prepare a user manual to help the companies quickly grasp the knowledge to use or modify the novel utility

Key Responsibilities:

1. Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.
2. Undertake these responsibilities in the project:visit PIPS member companies’ production sites in Singapore for data collection and model building
   train and validate the DES models using historical plant data or synthetic data
   develop the DES model optimizer by implementing appropriate DRL algorithms and user-defined objective functions (e.g., CAPEX/OPEX, sustainability metrics, etc.), with explainability on the suggested decisions from the algorithms
   present research findings in meetings with PIPS member companies; prepare peer-reviewed publications on the findings
   guide junior researchers and undergraduate students on their research activities
   engage and communicate with vendors/suppliers for purchasing software, and visit vendors’ facilities for both software evaluation and training purpose.

Job Requirements:

1. PhD in Chemical Engineering, Computer Science / Engineering or related fields. Master’s degree candidates with significant computational research experience may also be considered.

Project Overview

We are seeking one or more graduate research interns (ideally full time students currently pursuing a PhD degree) in computer science to join the “Towards an Immersive Workplace” project. This project is part of Task “T1” of a five-year, ambitious research program on "Mens, Manus and Machina—How AI Empowers People, Institutions and Cities in Singapore (M3S)."

Successful applicants for this position will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research that builds new capabilities for AI-enhanced human-robot interaction, with a special focus on supporting efficient and collaborative spatial/3D sensing and comprehension in industrial environments, such as airport tarmacs and logistics warehouses. The end goal is to build exciting new capabilities that allow robots and humans to work together, interactively and in close proximity, with the spatial sensing helping agents embedded in robots understand and situate human instructions, queries and commands, issued naturally in untethered, field settings.

The research intern, working part-time (10-16 hours per week) will be specifically involved in the development of new, energy-efficient and reliable spatial sensing technologies, such as LIDAR (3D). The goal is to allow teams of humans and robots, working in close proximity in a common physical environment, to achieve appropriate spatial awareness. The research will focus on addressing challenges such as (i) interference between multiple LIDAR sensors, when operating in a shared physical environment, (ii) optimized sharing of LIDAR-sensed point cloud data among collaborating peers, and (iii) resource-efficient augmentation of LIDAR sensing via use of additional cheaper sensors (e.g., RGB and thermal cameras). These techqniues will progressively be combined with additional research, being developed in complementary efforts within the overall T1 project, that tackles topics such as non-obtrusive human attention capture and efficient multi-modal DNN comprehension for human instructions, to support more accurate understanding of human instructions and preferences, whether explicit or implicit.

The T1 team is led by distinguished scholars, including Profs. Sanjay Sarma, Daniela Rus and Jinhua Zhang from MIT; and Prof. Archan Misra from Singapore Management University. The proposed research described above will be spearheaded by Prof. Misra.

- Working out theory of change and logic model

- Mapping existing services, keeping abreast of available NUHS and community services

- Identification of gaps

- Propose recommendations, and facilitate / drive partnerships and collaborations with relevant partners

- Supporting and monitoring development of recommendations, with focus on building and augmenting linkages between community and primary care with tertiary / specialist care

- Maintain updates and alignment to national and NUHS group care plans, protocols, and guidance

2) CSPI strategy and work planning

• Support the development and facilitate the implementation of long and short term strategies and plans for respective areas of work, ensuring alignment with overall RHSO and NUHS’ strategies and goals
• Work with relevant stakeholders to develop and put up work plans to support population health based initiatives and programmes
• Support project management for assigned population health programme(s), including work planning and budgeting

3) Support implementation of NUHS population health strategies and regional health plan

• Keep abreast of NUHS Population Health developments and identify opportunities/gaps/support where appropriate
• Actively sync and identify potential areas of collaboration with other NUHS institutions / departments and community / social partners to support population health efforts
• Provide administrative support to the Allied Health Lead and Medical Lead.

4) Any other tasks as assigned

Requirements:

Qualification Required and Area of Discipline

Good degree in any discipline, preferably in Life Sciences, Business Administration etc.

Required Competencies and Capabilities (Skills, Experiences and Professional Licences)

· 5 to 8 years of relevant working experience, preferably with 1 - 2 years in a managerial / leadership position

· Prior healthcare sector experience is preferred

· Experience in project management

· Experience in community care or partnerships will be an advantage

· Possess confidence to resonate with senior management leadership – internal and external stakeholders

· Ability to multi-task and work under tight timelines

· Good analytical and organization skills

· Good command of English, with experience in writing proposals and papers

Excellent communication, problem solving, presentation, negotiation and interpersonal skill
