The performance-interpretability tradeoff (PIT) in data science and AI refers to the balance between how well a statistical/machine learning model performs, and how readily humans can comprehend it. i) the (strategically) indeterminate nature of PIT

ii) PIT in time-based algorithms and discourses

iii) conceptual relationship(s) between PIT and ‘mixed-methods’ discourse research, with subsequent developments based on emergent findings.

Discourse datasets to be investigated include psychological counseling, social media, academic lectures, and other relevant time-based contexts, while time-based algorithms include LSTM, ARIMA time series, and survival regression models. WKWSCI is seeking a Project Officer to manage office administration, scheduling, meetings and events. This Project Officer will additionally play a role in supporting academic research. This includes conducting literature reviews, co-writing academic papers, analysing data, and participating in research teams to advance research objectives. The ideal candidate will be meticulous, conscientious and demonstrate a high degree of professionalism.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate executive schedules, appointments and events
• Organise and document minutes of meetings, meeting materials and follow-up on action plans
• Manage office operations, budget and expenses
• Oversee travel arrangements, itineraries and claims
• Prepare, edit and file communication materials, including presentations, emails and documents
• Maintain physical and digital files with care for data security and confidentiality
• Support academic research, including literature review, data collection, data analyses, and the authoring of research papers

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in business, communication studies or social science fields

We are looking to appoint a full-time Project Officer at the School of Humanities in Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

The incumbent will join the Linguistics and Multilingual Studies (LMS) Department working on a project titled ‘Performance-interpretability Tradeoff in Discourse Research’ led by Professor Dennis Tay. The position is a fixed term post for 17 months.

About the Project

The performance-interpretability tradeoff (PIT) in data science and AI refers to the balance between how well a statistical/machine learning model performs, and how readily humans can comprehend it. This project investigates the nature and characteristics of PIT in discourse research, focusing on the following:

i) the (strategically) indeterminate nature of PIT

ii) PIT in time-based algorithms and discourses

iii) conceptual relationship(s) between PIT and ‘mixed-methods’ discourse research, with subsequent developments based on emergent findings.

Discourse datasets to be investigated include psychological counseling, social media, academic lectures, and other relevant time-based contexts, while time-based algorithms include LSTM, ARIMA time series, and survival regression models. The project also aims to design and develop relevant pedagogical resources aimed at students and the general public.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in sourcing and collecting language and discourse datasets across different domains
• Assist in pre-processing discourse data for analysis
• Assist in preparation of research output, pedagogical resources, and/or other project-related deliverables

Job Requirements:

• Good Bachelor’s degree in linguistics, language studies, data science, or related fields
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Working knowledge of Natural Language Processing and Python / R is an advantage

You will be part of the core AI CoE team, responsible for defining, building, and deploying targeted strategies to accelerate AI adoption across industry verticals to uplift Singapore economy. You will engage with internal teams, partners, and customers to influence the adoption of our AI services. You will be working directly with the most important customers (across segments), developing ecosystem partners and shape the GTM plans to proliferate AI adoption in Singapore.

Key job responsibilities
In this role, You will have the opportunity to define and execute GTM strategies. Lead cross-functional initiatives to expand existing accounts, develop scalable programs to drive adoption, and identify new opportunities. This involves activities include market sizing, building an opportunity pipeline, working with customers to understand technical requirements for proof-of-concepts, identifying and engaging the right partners, and working with A*STAR broad technology specialists to identify new features required.

As the ideal candidate, you possess a business and technology background that enables you to lead and drive engagements with startups and large enterprises. You have domain expertise in key ML and AI use cases, understand the challenges involved in training and deploying AI models, and are able to work backwards from customer requirements to suggest scalable solutions and architectures. You have the technical depth to articulate the benefits of AI to different audiences, including but not limited to data scientists, data engineers, operations, and C-Level executives. In addition, you have a good understanding of the AI market trends, ecosystem, opportunities, and are passionate about market development. You will need to be adept at interacting, communicating, and partnering with teams across A*STAR (scientists, project managers, technical team), and externally with customers, partners, and importantly, the developer community.


Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline with at least 3 years in technical solutioning/implementation /consulting experience
• 5+ years of business development, product management, management consulting, and strategic partnership
• 1-2 years with AI in a business development/partner capacity.
• 1-2 years interfacing with AI customers and partners
• 2+ years developing and executing on strategic GTM strategies
• 5+ years developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level
