Summary

As the Deputy Director, you lead the Strategy and Governance unit and manage strategic and corporate planning needs for the organisation, working closely with Dsg Senior Management and the units to align organisational goals.

About the Strategy & Governance Unit

The Strategy and Governance (S&G) unit develops the strategies and directions for the organisation, to realise its vision of creating an innovation driven economy and a loveable city by design. The unit comprises two teams:

1. The Strategic Planning & Futures team is responsible for long-term planning and strategy development. Specific work entails facilitation of annual workplanning, formulation of design masterplan, driving Strategic Futures initiatives, and conducting research and insighting, as required to support Dsg’s interests.
2. The Corporate Planning & Governance team is responsible for optimising organisational effectiveness, involving enterprise risk management, knowledge management, data governance, budget planning, impact tracking, and other organisation-wide processes. The team also manages and provides secretariat support to Dsg Advisory Board.

Responsibilities

This position reports to the Deputy Executive Director or the Director of Strategy and Governance. There are three main responsibilities for this role:

Strategic Planning & Futures

• Work closely with Dsg Senior Management in setting direction, identifying focus areas and prioritising efforts to ensure organisation leadership for the industry, with the aim to develop a robust design ecosystem in Singapore.
• Support Dsg units by translating strategies into actionable steps or unit-specific workplans, to help refine unit-specific programmes and initiatives.
• Drive research workstreams within the organisation, both led by S&G and proposed by other units.

Corporate Planning & Governance

• Lead corporate planning for the organisation, to ensure its governance and optimal operations.
• Drive Corporate Planning & Governance workstreams within the organisation; including metrics and performance tracking, risk management, data governance with compliance to PDPA, policy development, budgeting, operation frameworks development, process reviews, work-planning session and others.
• Support Dsg units by managing and optimising processes to support unit-specific programmes and initiatives.
• Co-ordinate and liaise with other government agencies and ministries for impact reporting, securing funding and supporting whole-of-government workstreams.
• Manage all matters relating to Dsg Advisory Board.

Team Management

• As a team manager, you lead budget management and a dynamic team of 3-5 staff to achieve work targets. Beyond supervision, your leadership will make a significant impact on team success by inspiring collaboration, fostering individual growth, and shaping a positive work environment.

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of working experience in strategic and corporate planning, ideally within government agencies. Experience with research, budgeting, process development, strategic planning methodologies, futures thinking or work-planning facilitation would be an advantage but is not required.

Our Ideal Candidate

· Ideally experience in a strategic commercial role within Wholesale Banking (i.e. Client Coverage, CCIB Products) or strategy consulting (e.g. BCG, McKinsey, Bain, Oliver Wyman, In-House)

· Track-record of driving demonstrable commercial change within current/ previous role or team

· 6+ years of relevant work experience in an origination / sales, strategy or analytical role, preferably in financial services sector

Required Skillset

· Strong problem-solving skills

o Ability to frame and assess ambiguous/complex problems (such as client sector definition and value proposition) in simple, understandable terms

o Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing

· Strong stakeholder engagement skills

o Ability to work independently and pro-actively to drive results across the Bank

o Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organisation (incl. Management)

o Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

· Ability write concise, clear presentation slides and independently assess large datasets

· Knowledge of CCIB business verticals (Products, Clients Segments)

· Knowledge of CCIB systems and operational processes

· Background / experience in large-scale project management (PMO)
