Job Overview
The Product Development Engineer (PDE) is part of BU R&D Team. The goal of the PDE is to present Amcor as a responsive and an innovative packaging solution provider.
The role requires close links with sales, customers and marketing in order to generate and deliver sales or profit growth through new product development and roll out of existing concepts and value optimisation.
The primary purposes of this role are:
- Primary technical point of contact for the customer and sales for new product opportunities
- Manage and commercialise R&D projects with customers
- Manage the development of new and innovative products or the value engineering of existing products
- Ensure Amcor Flexibles is the preferred supplier of responsible, safe and innovative flexible packaging solutions to our customers.
- Develop and maintain internal specifications
- Process / Plant support
Principal Accountabilities
i. Lead and provide direction to product development initiatives
ii. Develop Innovation based relationship strategies for BU key accounts in collaboration with the BU sales and
marketing leader
iii. Ensuring the necessary R&D business systems are in place and operating effectively
iv. Lead Product Safety and Sustainable product initiatives for the BU
v. Implement and maintain metrics for continuous improvement of innovation and product change excellence
vi. Lead and ensure product development roadmaps are established for BU key market segments
vii. Ensure product platforms are implemented within the BU
viii. Lead simplification and standardisation programs, to ensure lowest cost and best value for Amcor and our customers
ix. Establishing and managing productive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
x. Drive a continuous improvement culture in the business
xi. Represent AF Singapore in market branding opportunities such as speaking engagements
xii. Continuously build product and technical knowledge and experience across the business
xiii. Actively monitor and track technology trends and needs, understand customer and market technical needs to define AF Singapore technical solutions and commercial positioning
xiv. Lead project sanctioning and governance decisions
xv. Lead and manage customer’s validation and qualification protocol

i. Dealing with multiple levels of internal and external customers;
ii. Ambiguity in terms of potential challenges encountered with customer applications
iii. Need to work autonomous whilst still working within a team network
Qualifications/Requirements
Knowledge and Experience
i. 3 to 5 years experience in a similar role in the packaging industry
ii. Deep flexible packaging experience
iii. Excellent problem solving skills
iv. Experience in customer related activities
v. Strong people skills with proven ability to develop teamwork and achieve results
vi. Change management
vii. Negotiation and influencing skills and experience
viii. Strong written and oral communication skills
ix. Experience in project management and project sanctioning and governance
x. Understanding of new product development (NPD) stage-gate process
Education and Certifications
BS in Polymer Science, related field or equivalent engineering experience is a plus but not required
Other information
· Willing to travel frequently to customer and plant locations in BU
· Must be comfortable working in fast-paced environment and dealing with ambiguity
