The Institute for Adult Learning (IAL), an autonomous institute of the Singapore University of Social Sciences, is at the forefront of building capabilities and continuing professional development for an effective, innovative and responsive adult learning sector.

The IAL Research Division champions applied and innovative research grounded in academic rigour to provide a strong knowledge base for the development of practice in CET, sustainable economic and workforce performance, and informed policies and practices. Using interdisciplinary approaches employing both quantitative and qualitative techniques, the research covers CET system design and practices, adult education, lifelong learning, jobs, skills, careers, labour market issues, pedagogy, andragogy, and praxis, among others.

What You Will Be Doing

In this position, the appointee will support the design and conduct of qualitative research projects, reporting to the Deputy Director. The responsibilities of the Researcher include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Design, develop and implement specific research projects including:Conducting literature review
   Designing research instruments
   Sourcing for research participants and collecting data
   Performing data analysis
   Performing research writing in required formats (reports, papers, articles)
   Managing data assets
   Performing other project administrative duties
   
2. Conduct dissemination activities such as seminars, webinars and conferences, as well translation of materials into outputs suitable for reaching out to non-research stakeholders
3. Perform any other duties, including cross-divisional projects or events, that may be assigned by the management from time to time to meet the needs of the organisation and changing environment.

Job Requirements

• A degree in the social sciences, humanities, or arts. Candidates with a graduate research degree will have an advantage.
• Interest to pursue research in the field of economic development and social equity, as regards to work, employment, learning, skills, labour markets and technology
• At least 3 years of work experience in research and/or policy areas using qualitative and/or mixed methods. Those without the requisite experience may still apply.
• Sound analytical skills, with capacity to connect theoretical knowledge to current and emerging societal issues
• Resourceful and respectful in engaging research participants, meeting ethical standards expected in research
• Good report writing, communication, administrative and project management skills
• Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team
• The successful appointee will be based in IAL Campus located at Lifelong Learning Institute at Paya Lebar.

My client is seeking a Researcher to join their team. You should be someone who can value-add by bringing in inquisitive and analytical perspectives, and has a flair for communicating research in ways that facilitate the learning community of the audience.

Summary

As a researcher, you will design, plan and conduct research. You will also communicate the research insights to support the learning and development of the audience and help them develop and implement strategies to deliver excellent service.

• Proposing research topics, designs and plans in the focused domains.

• Conducting research on key emerging trends, and drawing insights

• Uncovering insights using appropriate research methods, including but not limited to surveys, ethnographic interviews, intercept interviews, focus group discussions, contextual inquiries, observations, etc.

• Managing quantitative research, which includes designing the study, procuring of research partners, managing vendors and stakeholders

• Translating research insights into learning products such as articles, videos, infographics, toolkits, scenarios, games, simulations, case studies and papers on the topics relevant to meet learning needs both within and beyond the classroom.

• Convening and facilitating communities (both online and face-to-face) to share best practices, and pertinent issues and challenges

• Designing and facilitating discussions

• Designing and implementing learning interventions for practitioners and leaders, such as:.

o Organising roundtables, seminars and lectures helmed by practice leaders and academics to raise awareness of current and emerging issues.

o Providing advisory and consultancy services and managing multi-disciplinary projects.

You should:-

• Possesses strong analytical skills

• Possesses strong written and oral communication skills to put across research in a way that engages our stakeholders

• Is able to engage and manage stakeholders at various levels.

• Is able to work both independently and in a team.

• 2 to 3 years of experience in customer insights /market research/ consulting will be a plus
