Your primary task will be to inspect and assess the condition of cargo (including pre/post loading, damage assessment), inspect merchant vessels and other operating maritime assets to assess/quantify damage/losses).
Qualifications and skills
- At least 3 years of experience in ship or cargo survey (inspection)/hull survey, we prefer a certified ship/ cargo surveyor and/or relevant training certificate
- Proficiency in English commensurate with the scope of classification, statutory certification, hull and P&I damage handling.
- preferably certificates for marine casualty investigation or equivalent training.
- Knowledge of commercial shipping practises such as ISM/ISPS/MLC code, ship audit etc.
- Knowledge of marine insurance terms and conditions such as ITC clause, etc.
Responsibilities
- Acts as a professional specialist for the organisation in the application of relevant rules, regulations, requirements, concepts, principles and processes;
- Prepares technically accurate and timely reports of inspections and surveys carried out;
- Maintains organised and up-to-date survey files in his/her area of responsibility;
- Actively keeps abreast of new work methods and developments affecting the technical area of assigned area of responsibility and makes recommendations for changes in survey processes and safety programmes when warranted by these developments;
- Recommends new solutions to problems encountered and makes changes to work methods and procedures as required;
- Plans, schedules, and coordinates various phases of survey work and monitors the quality of work performed.
- Conducts surveys as requested by the customer and may be required to travel to the vessel/cargo location at short notice.
- coordinates with other stakeholders during the survey on board to reach consensus.
Education
Bachelor’s degree
Preferably hold the COC (Certificate of Competency) of a Merchant Ship Officer as 2/O (2nd Officer) or 2/E (2nd Engineer) or higher.
