Duration: This is a contractual position with a contract period from April 1, 2024, to December 31, 2025, with the option to extend for a further period of 11 months from January 1, 2026, to November 30, 2026, based on performance and mutual agreement.
Working Hours:
- Mondays to Thursdays: 7:00 am to 4:30 pm (inclusive of 1-hour lunch break)
- Fridays: 7:00 am to 4:00 pm (inclusive of 1-hour lunch break)
- No service required on Saturdays, Sundays, and gazetted public holidays.
Position Overview: Cedar Primary School is seeking a competent Science Laboratory Support Officer to join our team. The selected candidate will play a vital role in supporting inquiry-based learning in Science and ensuring the smooth operation of our school's science laboratories. This position requires an individual with a strong background in laboratory management and administration, excellent communication skills, and a passion for enabling hands-on learning experiences for students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support inquiry-based learning for Science by assisting teachers in the preparation of materials and apparatus for practical lessons and assessments.
- Manage, operate, and maintain the science laboratories and associated learning environments, such as the school garden and science corners, to ensure a conducive learning environment.
- Procure equipment and materials required for science practical lessons, maintain an inventory list of consumables, and manage inventory levels effectively.
- Ensure laboratory safety standards are adhered to at all times and serve as a certified first aider when necessary.
- Assist in logistic support and supervision during classes, workshops, and events involving the use of laboratory tools.
- Provide general office support including reception duties, handling telephone calls, attending to students, parents, and visitors, updating sick bay records, photocopying documents, filing, and stationery management.
- Undertake any other duties assigned by the School Leaders/Administrative Manager to support the overall functioning of the school.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident.
- NITEC Diploma or GCE ‘O’ Level Certificate.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as a lab technician in a primary school setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Ability to handle live specimens, such as insects and chemicals, safely and responsibly.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
