Imperial College London and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) are seeking an Assistant Programme Director for the Imperial/NTU CYber Protection for HEalthcaRe (IN-CYPHER) research programme on the cybersecurity of connected medical devices and systems. The research programme represents a collaboration between the United Kingdom and Singapore and will be based at the newly established Imperial Global Singapore (IGS) as National Research Foundations Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE) located on the campus of the National University of Singapore. One of the main goals in the field of quantum technologies is to achieve quantum computing.

Many technologies and platforms have been suggested to build a quantum computer, including ions, atoms, electrons, and superconducting materials. Among these options, all-integrated photonic platforms that allow creating complex circuitry with a small footprint are very promising.

In N-GAP we will explore and exploit a hybrid state of light and matter, the excitonic polariton, to create a platform for quantum computing. Exciton polaritons, which emerge from the strong-coupling of an exciton and a photon, exhibit Kerr nonlinearities typically three orders of magnitude stronger than that found in standard photonic nonlinear crystals.

The main objective of N-GAP is to further enhance the nonlinearity of the polariton systems to achieve the first experimental realisation of a deterministic CNOT gate based on polariton systems, which is the essential building block of a quantum computer.

Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a passion for medical research to assist in the development and characterization of a novel antithrombotic blood vessel coupler for microsurgical anastomoses. We will perform selective grafting of an antithrombotic compound in order to prevent blood from clotting after implantation of the coupler. Subsequently, we will perform a preclinical in vivo study to evaluate the anticoagulant potential of the coupler.

The candidate will work with a team of expert advisors to design and fabricate materials, perform selective grafting of antithrombotic compounds, and test the resulting materials for flow dynamics and blood thrombosis response. Once the material is ready, we will continue with pre-clinical animal testing.

The Research Assistant will participate in seagrass research, with a specific focus on studying effects of nutrient enrichment on marine plants.
