The Centre for Sustainable Materials (SusMat) at the School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore is seeking a highly skilled and motivated postdoctoral researcher or a recent PhD graduate to join our research team. The successful candidate will have expertise in peptide chemistry and engineering, cell culture studies, and assessment of intracellular therapeutic activity. The primary objective of this position is to develop and optimize phase-separating peptides coacervates that can readily recruit antibody therapeutics and delivery them intracellularly. The successful candidate will work closely within an interdisciplinary team that will develop a platform to delivery antibodies inside cells, and will include experts in antibody drug conjugates, live cell assays and in vivo studies.

Key Responsibilities:

• To develop and optimize stimuli-responsive peptide coacervates capable of recruiting antibody therapeutics by liquid-liquid separation (LLPS). These coacervates can cross the cell membrane and deliver antibodies inside cells (see https://www.nature.com/articles/s41557-021-00854-4)
• To carry out in vitro drug delivery experiments and investigate intracellular delivery of therapeutics, including antibodies, anti-cancer peptides, etc.
• To closely work with other researchers designing in vivo studies of the same therapeutics.
• To develop live cell assay and cell biology protocols to study the in vitro efficacy of antibody therapeutics delivered with our peptide coacervates technology.
• To supervise post-graduate students, write scientific papers, and interact with our expert collaborators in peptide design, live cell assays, antibody drug conjugates, and in vivo studies.

Job Requirements:

• Education: PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Bioengineering, or Biochemistry.
• Expertise: Strong background and hands-on experience in peptide synthesis and peptide conjugates. Proficiency cell culture and fluorescence microscopy techniques.

As an AAALAC accredited facility, the Veterinarian will play a critical role in ensuring that the accreditation status is maintained. The Veterinarian will be responsible for carrying out all aspects of the veterinary requirements, from treating the animals, assessing animal health reports of incoming shipments, performing health monitoring of animals, implementing preventive measures to disease outbreaks, so that the welfare and ethical treatment of animal are addressed and maintained according to the guidelines thereby enhancing the research work in the University.

Responsibilities:

Prevention, Diagnosis, Control and Treatment of Disease

• Assessment of sick and dead animals, including necropsy of dead animals if needed.
• Prescribing and administration of treatment/euthanasia of sick animals.
• Implementing and maintaining the sentinel animal health monitoring system.
• Health review and approval of all incoming and outgoing animal.
• Addressing nutritional requirements when required.

Pain and distress- prevention, minimization and alleviation

• Advising staff and researchers about the use of analgesics and anaesthetics in animals, including dispensing of above-mentioned drugs/agents. Keeping records of all drugs provided to researchers/staff.
• Procurement of drugs or agents used in veterinary medicine. Keeping records of veterinary drugs provided to staff and researchers. Maintain controlled drug records.
• Ensure that all welfare concerns regarding the use of animals within the facility meets regulatory guidelines. Pain and distress must be minimised or eliminated when possible.

Assisting the researchers on procedures and general equipment usage

• Train the researchers regarding the safe use of euthanasia chambers and anaesthetic equipment. Ensuring that all anaesthetic equipment are maintained and calibrated on a regular basis.
• Ensure that all physical means of euthanasia are carried out appropriately without any welfare concerns.
• Advise the researchers and staff on the approved surgical methodologies, fluid administration and withdrawal volumes and breeding colony maintenance.
• Conduct Responsible Care and Use of Animals (RCULAC) and Responsible Care and Use of Fish (RCUF) Practical courses for new users.
• Review RCULAC online theory course to ensure that information provided is accurate and up to date.

IACUC Responsibilities

• To address all regulatory requirements of a veterinarian as defined by the NACLAR Guidelines. This includes sitting on the IACUC committee and reviewing animal use protocol, facility and program evaluations, monitoring of IACUC compliance and advising researchers regarding sick/moribund animal, humane endpoints and treatment plans/euthanasia.
• Work with the IACUC secretariat on addressing non-compliance with IACUC protocols.
• Implement researcher/staff training sessions to enhance ongoing training and development of researchers and facility staff.

The primary dataset will comprise a large-scale database consisting of comprehensive phenotypic characterization and whole genome sequencing of 100,000 Singaporeans participating in the PRECISE-SG100K population study. Our aim is to use these genomic data to transform understanding of health and disease in Asian populations, and to advance healthcare in Singapore.
