Research project: Connecting within-host viral dynamics with the epidemiology of COVID-19: a multiscale computational infrastructure

In this project, we aim to develop a multiscale modeling framework and computational infrastructure to connect within-host viral dynamics/antibody dynamics and between-host transmission dynamics. The multiscale model will help address key epidemiological and public health questions which could not be answered by classic (single scale) approaches. Specifically, we plan to develop and calibrate the multiscale model for SARS-CoV-2 and assess effect of intervention (e.g., antiviral treatment) on epidemiological dynamics.

This project is led by Keisuke Ejima, an Assistant Professor at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University.

The Research Fellow primarily leads the project under supervision of PI in the areas of collecting clean data, reviewing literatures, lead model development, lead data analyses, leading the manuscript writing and other areas of the project support.

The Carney lab investigates the cell dynamics in the skeletal system and epithelia. Its analyses have implications for fundamental cell biology, evolution, genetics and clinical underpinnings of disease. Guided by issues facing the clinic, the lab has recently modelled diseases affecting skeletal system and has developed a model of bone necrosis.

We are currently recruiting a Research Associate to work on interrogating a zebrafish model of a clinical bone necrosis. Working closely with a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, the job will include molecular biology, animal husbandry, cloning, transgenesis and genotyping as well as imaging approaches. Furthermore, the applicant will be expected to offer general support in laboratory maintenance tasks, including laboratory supply and inventory control, procurement and routine genotyping and fish line maintenance. • Offer support to Exhibition Attendant during all operating hours

• Ensure the exhibition’s scenography are working and make repairs as they occur
• Ensure that the environment remains safe, clean and professional throughout the duration of the exhibition

The MVAIT lab at Nanyang Technological University conducts high quality research on AI for medicine. These projects include the development of AI and software tools for the analysis of different types of medical data, such as omics, cell and medical imaging data. The objective is to enhance clinical efficiency and introduce affordable and effective biomedical technology to the society.

The role of the Research Associate includes conducting research on medical imaging data processing, 3D reconstruction, and AI algorithms with surgical robotics. The RA will not only design and implement state-of-the-art algorithms but will also be actively involved in the development and refinement of AI tools tailored for diverse medical domains. These endeavors aim to bridge the gap between advanced computational solutions and practical medical applications. The RA will be involved in projects which aims to harness technology for the enhancement of patient outcomes and clinical efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement AI algorithms to analyze medical datasets, including MR, CT, X-ray and microscopy data.
• Conduct research on high-precision medical analysis and data interpretation.
• Develop, test, and refine AI tools for different medical domains, ensuring the efficiency of the tools in real-world medical settings.
• Design dashboards or visualization tools to incorporate the implemented AI algorithms, and utilize VR/AR equipment and 3D visualization to enhance the understanding for clinicians, as well as facilitate in the training of students.

Requirements:

• Strong experience in deep learning, AI, computer vision, machine learning, medical image analysis, healthcare.

• Expert knowledge of Python, C++, Pytorch, Tensorflow, etc.

• Experience in the analysis of medical imaging dataset.

• Experience in medical software implementation is a plus.

• Good ability in communicating data science models to non-data science audience using simple language.
