Job Purpose:
The Design Manager will play a pivotal role in enhancing the unique style and personality of The Standard, Singapore. Working closely with the property and Corporate Design Team, you will support the property’s design initiatives, focusing on furniture, small construction projects, signage, maintenance of existing designs, and assisting in design development. Your creativity will be key to ensuring that every visual element aligns with The Standard’s vibrant and distinctive brand.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Teams: Work closely with the Management Team to ensure that all spaces meet the specified standards and that public areas are always "in show" status.
- Maintain Design Integrity: Partner with Housekeeping, Engineering, and Food & Beverage teams to ensure that interior design standards are consistently met. This includes ensuring all rooms, displays, layouts, structures, signage, and event setups are visually up to par.
- Lead Property Tours: Conduct weekly property tours with department heads to report on active, pending, and completed projects impacting guest experience, ensuring they are aligned with brand integrity.
- Project Reporting: Assist in clear and accurate reporting of design projects across all departments, ensuring ongoing communication and understanding.
- Design Execution: Execute all design-related projects as specified by the corporate design team, including material sourcing, vendor selection, budget management, and creating maintenance manuals.
- Vendor Coordination: Schedule, follow up, and oversee outside vendor projects in a professional manner.
- Procurement and Inventory Management: Manage the processing and tracking of Purchase Orders, coordinate furniture placement, landscaping maintenance, and oversee tools and materials needed across the property. Maintain and organize inventory of all fixtures, furniture, and equipment on and off property.
- Support Marketing and Events: Collaborate with the marketing team on the physical and creative setups for activations and events, ensuring design consistency.
- Installations and Communication: Coordinate on-site installations and communicate work schedules with relevant departments.
- Material Sourcing: Source new and replacement materials for projects, whether locally, nationally, or internationally.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.
- 2-4 years of interior design experience, preferably within hospitality or lifestyle brands.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, CAD, SketchUp, and similar design software.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, floor plans, and understand spatial relationships.
- Knowledge of basic wood and metal finishes and general contracting terms.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
- Highly organized with extreme attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a positive attitude.
