At AltSchool, we combine Montessori-inspired principles with evidence-based therapeutic practices in a dynamic classroom environment. As a Teacher, you will design and deliver personalised lesson plans in a full-day programme, supported by a low student-to-teacher ratio . With a focus on transdisciplinary collaboration, you’ll work closely with therapists, families, and a passionate team to create meaningful educational experiences for children with developmental challenges.
First 90 Days
- Gain an in-depth understanding of AltSchool’s play-responsive, child-led approach and innovative methodologies.
- Learn and apply all policies and protocols, including IEP development, classroom management, and family engagement strategies.
- Build proficiency in using our school management app, Google Workspace, and other tools to support planning, reporting, and communication.
- Collaborate with therapists and lead the adaptation of AltSchool’s curriculum to meet the developmental needs of each student.
- Establish relationships with students, families, and the AltSchool team, building trust and open communication.
Ongoing Expectations
- Plan, deliver, and refine lesson plans to support high-quality, individualised learning experiences.
- Develop and implement Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to each student’s abilities and developmental goals.
- Lead and mentor Assistant Teachers, providing guidance in classroom management and student support.
- Work collaboratively with therapists, including speech and occupational therapists, to develop and review comprehensive educational plans.
- Assess and document student progress, leveraging technology for efficient reporting and strategy adjustments.
- Maintain open communication with families, sharing progress updates and strategies to support learning at home.
- Drive continuous improvement by contributing to team discussions, proposing innovative ideas, and refining teaching practices.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in special education or a therapy setting.
- Knowledge of creating and implementing IEPs.
- Additional certifications in teaching or specialised methodologies (e.g., DIR Floortime) are highly desirable.
- Strong technology skills, particularly in Google Workspace and education management tools.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a passion for innovative and inclusive education.
