About the role

The Business Analyst role will be dedicated to the Trading & Shipping business and will drive long term enhancement of the Trading & Shipping suite of software solutions by ensuring business processes and application functionalities for both current and future state are collated and implemented.

The Business Analyst will work closely with project specialists, business stakeholders, technical members of the Trading & Shipping Tech Team team and the wider IT group to extract value from the application portfolio whilst remaining consistent with Ampol Group’s overall strategic IT direction.

Acting as the pivot or intermediary between end-users and IT to ensure that business/user requirements are delivered in IT solutions.

This includes leading the gathering and analysis of Ampol’s business objectives and requirements, preparation of high-level process and system designs, identification and recommendation of solutions, assessment of business impact, and the development of clearly defined Business Cases - in partnership with business stakeholders.

In this role activities will relate to the more advanced, complex or costly assignments.

Key responsibilities

Project Delivery

• Develop business cases under Ampol Financial & Project Frameworks and Governance, to enable informed prioritisation of initiatives.

• Ensure high level benefits are captured, and ownership of their delivery is agreed.

• Work in collaboration with Decision Support to build financial models.

• Scope and estimate timeframes and deliverables for Phase 0 -2 of initiatives.

• Act as stakeholder and SME in projects from Phase 3 – 5 to ensure that requirements are delivered as agreed.

Strategy and vision

• Maintain a watching brief on technologies so as to be able to provide input to direction setting – including changes to regulatory frameworks.

• Provide input to development of technology and application roadmaps in support Business & IT strategies as required.

• Perform gap analysis to compare technology offerings with requirements and / or strategies.

Vendor Management

• Build and maintain effective working relationships with external vendors and suppliers in support of Ampol objectives.

• Identify potential vendors for potential solutions.

• Participate in vendor solution evaluation.

Stakeholder Management

• Build and develop effective working relationships with business & customers to ensure business requirements are understood.

• Identify Subject Matter Experts within the organisation.

• Mentor of Business Analysts in team.

Project Management

• Project manage specific assigned smaller projects in the delivery of Phase 0 – Phase 2 enhancements, including management of internal and external resources assigned to the project, budgets, and scope.

Qualifications & experience

• Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (such as Business, IT, Engineering, Accounting) or significant equivalent workplace experience.

• ITIL v3 or 4 Foundation certified.

• BABOK certification highly regarded.

• Proven experience in CTRM, Shipping Management and Risk Systems (eg. Allegro, Aspect, Openlink Endur, TriplePoint, IMOS, SoftMar, Lacima, etc).

• Proven experience in performing business analysis and stakeholder management in the Trading and Shipping business.

• A minimum of 5 years proven experience in Business Analysis.

• Proven experience in successful development of Business Cases.

• Proven experience and track record in the successful implementation of IT projects.

• Sound general IT experience (applications and/or infrastructure) including systemic knowledge of IT development, operational and change management processes and methodologies.

As a Data Application Specialist at Ampol, you will be responsible for service managing including contributing to data modelling, repository maintenance, supporting, and liaising with multiple Vendors, data providers, tool providers, to maintaining web application tool and analytics solutions using Dataiku and Python. About the role

A combination of project delivery and BAU management, this role supports projects and maintains the governance frameworks and reporting for the region to support International and Trading & Shipping businesses growth strategy.

Initiatives will require input from a broad range of teams within Ampol. Engagement with these teams including the ability to influence, will play an important part in the success of this role.

Support idea generation in Trading and Shipping

• Support Project Specialists in idea generation workshops in the Trading and Shipping team in order to assist the department in maximising the value generated by the business. This includes considering the team capabilities required to support the business growth plan, addressing capability gaps and identifying enablers to business growth success.

Implement the use of Ampol Management of Change tools in Trading and Shipping

• Support Project Specialists through the management of change processes during initiative implementation. This includes the use of tools and frameworks to assist in generating value, improving safety awareness and efficiencies in Trading and Shipping.

Support Continuous Improvement in the Trading and Shipping team

• Support implementation of changes through process reviews, measure and validate required outcomes
• Responsible for compiling & coordination of process training with relevant stakeholder groups

Support the development and use of project management frameworks in Trading and Shipping

• Assist the Trading and Shipping department in project management of team specific initiatives including use of processes developed for the group. This includes managing and maintaining the project framework to ensure it is fit for purpose.

Support governance, risk & control initiatives, and monthly reporting

• Support the Governance Specialist in managing the risk & control lifecycle and reporting including ownership and maintenance of the Trading & Shipping risk register.
• Support compiling & coordination of training with relevant stakeholder groups.

Qualifications & experience

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Finance or Business or related discipline or relevant operational experience.

• 2+ year’s downstream oil industry and/or petroleum trading companies in areas such as Supply planning, Supply operations, line finance roles, corporate planning and strategy, and distribution and sales leadership positions.

About the role

The Analytics Intern will support the Commercial Analysis team in the delivery of the Data Analytics Project. The intern will also have the opportunity to gain and apply knowledge of fundamental analysis in oil trading,

As part of the Data Analytics project, the analysis team has completed the ingestion of data sources into the Snowflake datalake. The Analytics Intern will have the opportunity to collaborate with the commercial analysts, developers, data scientists and data engineers to migrate and automate BAU processes from excel to Snowflake/Dataiku, build out machine learning/analytical models and visualization dashboards.

The Analytics Intern will also assist the Commercial Analysts with the production of regular reports, data collection, data cleaning and ad-hoc analysis involving any form of market intelligence and data.

Key responsibilities

• Migration of data sources from excel to snowflake. This involves rebuilding excel spreadsheets with updated queries and building new models and flows in dataiku. The intern will also have the opportunity to work with data scientists and commercial analysts on machine-learning/forecasting models for supply-demand balances.

• Collaborate with commercial analysts and data engineers on coding and data modelling requirements to reconcile refinery outage and ship tracking data from multiple sources (identify duplicates/conflicts and resolve conflicts).

• Utilization of data visualisation tools (e.g. PowerBI) to build out insights from snowflake datalake.

• Research and develop quantitative models and algorithms.

• Produce regular reports on country statistics, ship tracking, vessel tonnage, refinery outages, price charts and support the publication of the weekly market outlook report. In the process of migration, it may involve continuing some BAU excel processes.

• Collaborate with analysts and traders in any relevant analysis involving any form of market intelligence and data.
