Job Overview:
Astor International School is seeking a dedicated and passionate English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing lessons designed to help students acquire English language skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. This role involves working with students of diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds to ensure their academic and social success.
The Context:
Astor opened in August of 2019 to provide quality, affordable education to international students. Astor provides a focused and creative learning environment that specifically grows student understanding in Mathematics, Literacy, Humanities and Science whilst embracing art, music, dance and drama as an important tool in which to explore thinking and learning. By being intentional in our program, students finish at 1pm, allowing them the time needed for external coaching, training and programs that have otherwise not been accommodated for the academic part of the days.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instructional Planning and Delivery:
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials tailored to the proficiency levels and learning needs of students.
- Use interactive and engaging teaching methods to build students’ English language skills.
- Incorporate a variety of enquiry based activities to enhance the learning experience.
- Assessment and Evaluation:
- Conduct regular assessments to monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
- Provide feedback to students on their performance and areas for improvement.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records of student progress and achievements.
- Student Support:
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and builds confidence.
- Support students in overcoming language barriers in academic and social contexts.
- Address individual learning needs by providing additional resources or one-on-one support.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work collaboratively with other teachers, and administrators to support student learning.
- Communicate with parents or guardians about student progress, achievements, and challenges.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay updated on ESL teaching strategies and practices.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Linguistics, or a related field.
- Certification: TEFL, TESOL, CELTA, or a state-approved ESL teaching certification.
- Skills:
- Native English speaker.
- Strong knowledge of second language acquisition principles and teaching methodologies.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.

- Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping students succeed.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet individual and group needs.
Working Conditions:
- Classroom-based teaching, in-class push-in support, play duty and extracurricular activities.
- Flexibility to accommodate varying schedules, including evening or weekend classes if required.
Salary: $2000 - $3000 per month
