Designation: Primary Science Technician

KEY ACCOUNTABILITY (Main purpose of this job):
The Primary School Science Technician will support teachers in all aspects of science teaching with the PYP. This includes organising and maintaining resources and providing in-class support working with teachers and students where required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Responsibilities
- Assist and guide students by demonstrating appropriate support, patience, kindness and caring
- Develop students’ self-esteem and positive self-concept
- Supervise, observe and encourage positive student behavior in a developmentally appropriate way, and in keeping with the values of our school
- Model the CIS values of Excellence, Respect, Collaboration, Creativity, Curiosity, and Generosity
- Abide by the dress code of the school
- Attend professional learning and training sessions when required by the school
Science Specific Responsibilities
Science Resource Organisation
- Source, purchase, and catalogue resources
- Compile orders and liaise with suppliers and finance departments as/when required
- Manage a booking system for teachers and ensure the availability of suitable resources
- Coordinate the preparation of resources for lessons, including liaising with the coordinator, teaching staff and support staff
- Maintain an accurate inventory of resources to ensure that stock levels are maintained, resources are returned in working order and future requirements are identified
- Provide general assistance in the safe storage, transit and accessibility of resources in line with current health and safety guidelines
PYP Science laboratory
- Keeping the laboratory neat and tidy and equipment and resources stored
- Working with students on individual or class projects
In-class support
- Trial practical activities/experiments to troubleshoot potential challenges
- Support and assist teachers during practical activities
- Work with students on individual projects in class
REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE:
- Post secondary education and or certification in an education-related field
- Prior experience working in an educational setting preferred
