A dynamic and successful digital bank (Singapore focused) is seeking a proactive and driven Legal Counsel to join their legal team. Responsibilities
As a Legal Counsel with a focus on technology, you will report directly to the CLO and play a pivotal role in supporting the business, operations, and technology teams. Your key responsibilities include:
- Leading the negotiation, drafting, and management of contracts with third parties, including agreements with group entities.
- Coordinating the workflow of legal contracts, assigning tasks within the legal team, and maintaining transparency on progress with stakeholders.
- Providing practical legal advice on third-party agreements, retail banking, and related matters to ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Supporting the development and periodic review of standard documentation, including templates, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborating with compliance and risk management functions to embed robust due diligence and governance processes.
- Acting as a trusted legal advisor on the development and management of one or more of the organization’s banking products.
- Managing external counsel engagements, including fee negotiations and instructions.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and collaboration.
- Conducting training sessions for the legal team and broader organization as needed.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- A qualified lawyer with approximately 5 years of post-qualification experience, preferably in Singapore or another common law jurisdiction.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
- A solutions-oriented mindset, demonstrating commercial acumen and innovative thinking.
- Experience in retail banking, technology-related legal matters, or both, with the ability to adapt to new and evolving regulations.
- A collaborative approach, with the ability to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
- Sound judgment, ethical integrity, and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating legal risks.
- An inquisitive mindset with a keen interest in fintech developments and emerging trends in digital banking.
- A commitment to personal and professional growth, with aspirations to develop into a generalist counsel role.
