About us
From its origins in a small workshop in rural England, Dyson has grown into a technology company with a global footprint. We have offices from Auckland to Zurich, via Singapore, Moscow and Chicago. While engineering remains at our core, our passion for problem solving across different disciplines runs throughout our business. We're a diverse workforce made up of people with different Dyson behaviours.
Our philosophy remains the same as it was 25 years ago when James Dyson invented the first cyclonic vacuum cleaner. We remain family-owned. We don’t bow to outside shareholders or report to the stock exchange. Instead, we plot our own path, unshackled from conventional thinking.
Dyson people are encouraged to think differently, challenge convention and be unafraid to make mistakes. We’re creative, collaborative, practical, enthusiastic and resourceful. However, most of all we’re passionate about what we do.
About the role
Housed under the Energy Storage Mechanical Design team, the Engineer will report to the Design Engineering Manager.
The role is suited for candidates looking to be an independent engineer. The primary function of the engineer would be to develop and maintain mechanical assembly tolerance stack models and scenarios to aid the assessment of manufacturing concepts.
For a successful transition into the role and team, the candidate should firstly have interest in the space of energy storage solutions.
He/she should possess a good foundation in fundamental mechanical engineering principles and have a particular interest in the mechanisms of manufacturing equipment. The role looks to fill a gap in a team that looks to accelerate its capabilities in high volume and high-quality manufacturing. The candidate should expect to exercise both technical and soft skills on a regular basis to address the problem statement across varying functions in the business.
- A strong appreciation for how process and equipment design influence the variations of mass manufacturing.
- Able to develop/analyse statistical models to quantify the risks of variations in manufacturing.
- Interest in exercising and developing soft skills to communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Interacting with multiple internal stakeholders regularly to capture the latest developments to keep his/her own analysis up to date.
- Hands-on and willing to be in a workshop/production environment with the use of common hand tools to conduct verification and validation exercises.
- Flexible with learning different approaches to engineering problems but also confident in the rationale for his/her existing approaches from prior experiences.
- Capable of using 3D modelling for prototyping works that might be needed to achieve objectives.
About You
- Degree or relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering or related fields.
- 6+ years of Engineering Industry Experience.
- Preferably industry experience in Battery Cell Manufacturing or Equipment design and production.
- Willingness to spend time in a workshop/production environment for project developmental reasons.
- Fluent in the analysis of assembly tolerance stacks.
- Keen interest in the use of statistical models.
- Ability to breakdown new engineering problems to build an approach to solving the issue.
- Comfortable with presenting and engaging stakeholders to present proposals of change.
- Strong organisational skills with a methodical and detailed approach.
- Working proficiency/Basic skills in CAD modelling.
