The Research Department at INSEAD is currently seeking dedicated and talented Pre-Doctoral Researchers to join our pool of predocs in our campus in Singapore. The position is for one year, with the possibility of renewal at the end of the first year upon evaluation. Candidates applying for positions based in Singapore need to already have authorization to work in Singapore. Besides resident positions, in certain cases, we might also offer part time remote positions on short term assignments.

As a Pre-Doctoral Researcher, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with leading professors in various academic areas, including Accounting (ACC), Decision Sciences (DSC), Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise (EFE), Economics & Political Science (EPS), Finance (FIN), Marketing (MKT), Organisational Behaviour (OB), Strategy (STR) and Technology & Operations Management (TOM).

Position Overview:

This role is designed for exceptional final-year students or recent Master's graduates with an outstanding academic record and a genuine passion for research. Our ideal candidates are motivated individuals eager to enhance their research skills while working alongside renowned scholars, with the aim of pursuing a Ph.D. in the future. Previous Pre-Doctoral Researchers at INSEAD have successfully transitioned to Ph.D. programs at prestigious institutions such as INSEAD, Harvard, Stanford, Caltech, Columbia, Sciences Po, LSE, Stockholm School of Economics and others.

Ideal Candidate:

Our ideal candidate is someone who:

· Is completing a Bachelor's or Master's degree or has recently graduated from a top institution

· Has evidence of outstanding academic achievements and a strong quantitative or qualitative background (research work samples are a plus)

· Has a clear ambition to pursue a Ph.D. in the future

· Demonstrates proficiency in research tools and packages (R, Python, Matlab, SAS, Stata, SPSS, etc.)

· Excels in detail-oriented research tasks and data analysis

· Can work independently, manage timelines, and meet faculty expectations

· Possesses previous research experience and knowledge of econometrics (strong pluses)

· Is fluent in both written and spoken English

Responsibilities:

As a Pre-Doctoral Researcher your responsibilities will include:

· Assisting with quantitative and/or qualitative research projects across academic areas

· Brainstorming potential research questions

· Conducting academic literature searches and reviews

· Managing and analyzing data using software packages like R, Python, Matlab, SAS, Stata, SPSS, etc.

· Performing statistical data analysis, interpreting findings, and contributing to write-ups

· Designing and conducting experiments

The INSEAD’s Stone Centre for the Study of Wealth Inequality, in combination with the Economics and Political Science area, invites applications for a full time Pre-Doctoral Researcher to work as a Research Associate (Area Researcher) on INSEAD’s Singapore campus.

The role involves working with Professors Pushan Dutt and Lin Tian on various projects related to inequality, broadly defined. The ideal candidate should have strong data management and data analyses skills, particularly software packages such as STATA, R, Matlab and Python. Skills in STATA are especially valuable.

The position is ideal for a recent university or Masters graduate looking to develop their research skills in economics in view of applying for a PhD programme. It will provide the candidate with great preparation for PhD programme entry by training the applicant in doing research, giving him/her access to some PhD training and developing a relationship with potential letter writers.

The full-time position is for one year with a possibility of renewal after evaluation at the end of the year. The candidate needs to already have authorization to work in Singapore. Students who are graduating or have graduated from Singapore local universities may apply for the position.

Requirements

All candidates should fit the following profile:

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in economics, computer science, statistics, or mathematics preferred.
• Fluency in written and oral English is required.
• Knowledge of STATA is required. At least one other programming language (Python, Julia, Matlab, SAS or R) is a plus.
• Strong analytical/empirical skills
• Ability to work independently and in small teams

The James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Centre for the Study of Wealth Inequality was founded in 2017 to serve as a venue for the research and teaching of income and wealth inequality issues in a business school environment. By convening an interdisciplinary team of scholars from across INSEAD, the Centre aims to generate new insights about inequality problems and business working together with government to solve them.
