Job Description
The Institute for Applied Learning Sciences and Educational Technology (ALSET) (to be renamed Centre for Holistic Inquiry into Lifelong Learning (CHILL)) has an opening for a UI/UX Researcher (Research Assistant) role.
The User Researcher will utilize data analytics to understand and analyze the needs, behaviours, and motivations of users to inform the design and development of a system for designing inclusive blended learning solutions for diverse learner populations. This involves:
- Gathering raw data from various sources such as databases, data warehouses, social media, and more.
- Preparing the data for analysis by removing inaccuracies, inconsistencies, and redundancies.
- Applying statistical and mathematical models to the data to identify relationships, correlations, and causations.
- Conducting various research activities such as interviews, surveys, and focus groups to gather both qualitative and quantitative data from users.
- Synthesizing qualitative data through thematic analysis and interpreting quantitative data using statistical methods.
- Creating visualizations to interpret and communicate findings from collected data.
- Translating research findings into actionable insights and recommendations, guiding the design and development process to ensure the final product meets user needs effectively.
Additionally, the researcher will work in the broader field of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) on researching user experience where they would be developing, prototyping and conducting usability testing. The Designer will also be involved in developing various artefacts contributing to the Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) aspect of HCI research, and leading appropriate research activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems or related fields.
- At least 1-2 years’ experience in user research and data analytics using technologies such as Tableau, R and Python.
- Experience in databases such as MongoDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL is preferred.
- Experience in technologies such as React, Node is an added plus.
- Prior research experience is advantageous.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data analytics tools.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
