THE ROLE

Netflix seeks a seasoned and intellectually-curious music business affairs executive to join our team based in Singapore. This role will provide music business affairs support for our Content, Marketing, and PR teams covering Southeast Asia, Australia/New Zealand, and Chinese-language projects. This position will be based in our Singapore office, with periodic international travel.

A substantial part of the role will be overseeing, managing, and scaling the music clearance workflow for film and series content and for marketing and PR campaigns, from project conceptualization to launch. The role includes clearing music tracks with multiple rights holders, from quote, through negotiation, to signature–and, if clearance is not feasible, suggesting alternative tracks. In addition, the role will advise on a wide range of music matters, including CMO requirements, while keeping in mind the strategic goals of the company.

REQUIREMENTS

This person must have music supervision or music clearance experience. They must have in-depth knowledge of music copyright, and experience structuring, negotiating, and drafting master use and synchronization license agreements; library license agreements; composer, songwriter, and performer agreements; music director and music producer agreements; record label and music publishing waivers; and soundtrack album agreements. They must have strong contacts in the Southeast Asia, Australia/New Zealand, and/or Chinese-language music industry, including with record labels, publishers, libraries, production agencies, artists, songwriters, and managers.

Experience in the film or series industry and knowledge of the film/series production and distribution process (e.g., development to post, cue sheets, and marketing) is highly preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Advise production companies on music clearance, or clear music directly as necessary for content/marketing/PR usage
• Flag potential music clearance concerns during project development phase
• Research music ownership and obtain quotes from record labels and publishers
• Negotiate music license contracts, including music library deals and blanket deals
• Onboard and manage external music supervisors, external music legal counsel, and other external music clearance personnel
• Execute custom music projects with artists and producers
• Manage and review music legal delivery and rights management workflows, including tracking of music license terms and restrictions and music cue sheets
• Advise on and monitor music budgets, and provide estimates when needed, for film, series, and marketing/PR projects
• Advise internal and external stakeholders on music rights and restrictions
• Build and maintain strong relationships in the music industry
• Conduct territory-specific music industry research
• Align with music business affairs counterparts across the globe to maintain a cohesive global music strategy

Our team is looking for an experienced Regional Language Manager to drive and manage the language strategy for Southeast Asian languages on Netflix Products, Content, and Games, and to work closely with external resources and internal stakeholders and partners at Netflix in order to deliver the best user experience to our members and non-members in the region.

This highly motivated individual will be based in our APAC hub in Singapore and will work closely with the rest of the Globalization team in the US, Asia, and Europe.

Responsibilities

• Develop linguistic and cultural standards and guidelines, define quality expectations across the whole localized user experience, including supporting the development of style guides, glossaries, tone and voice of Netflix products (UI, navigation, synopses) and content (subtitle, title name localization, supplementals), games and marketing in the region.
• Monitor the linguistic quality output of Thai, Indonesian, and Malay languages (subject to adjustment depending on shifts in the relevant business signals) by using our internal MQM-based LQA model and other internal quality metrics and KPIs, and provide feedback and context to the translation teams for each of the languages/markets supported, in order to ensure the best resource fit for the highest quality impact.
• Communicate proactively with Globalization cross-functional teams to anticipate, identify, and fix linguistic, product, and subtitling issues related to the region.
• Proactively engage with relevant stakeholders in regional offices (e.g. Marketing, PR, Social) for additional context and insights on high visibility titles and to define and influence the best creative and linguistic approach for top priority content.
• Facilitate collaboration between internal stakeholders (in the region and in the US) and vendors, making sure the necessary resources have access to the relevant information, and advising on the best course of action regarding localization processes.
• Collaborate closely with other Globalization Language Managers and internal stakeholders (e.g. Globalization Program Managers, Content Acquisition teams) to collect relevant cultural and linguistic information about Netflix South East Asian International Originals and support the localization effort in bringing this content to a global audience.
• Partner with our International Dubbing team to influence the language strategy of our local language dubbed assets for Netflix branded and non-branded content in the region.
• Gain deep production knowledge and awareness of product and content data for the region and define quality expectations through research and A/B testing.
• Proactively engage with internal and regional stakeholders to drive regional product initiatives and create an optimized and consistent local experience and ecosystem for our regional members and non-members.

Role Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in managing language quality and localization programs at a strategic level - experience in entertainment localization (subtitling, dubbing, gaming) a plus.
• Strong business acumen and proven stakeholder management skills.
• Proven experience in translation, localization, and language quality management.
• Ability to show initiative, work independently, and drive initiatives at a strategic level.
• Fluency in English and native knowledge of Thai languages. Fluency in any other regional language is a plus.
