About the Role
Santos is seeking a motivated and dynamic Junior Charterer based in Singapore. The key purpose of the role is managing freight contracts through their life cycle and optimising value from Santos’ LNG tanker operations (primarily LNG, secondarily crude oil / liquids), and development of chartering arrangements to support upstream and marketing business. Responsible for supporting vessel operations and chartering activities ensuring the efficient deployment of vessels and optimising commercial performance.
This activity will be undertaken in Singapore reporting to the Shipping and Chartering Manager in Singapore.
Key accountabilities include:
- Vessel operations management of Santos’ LNG and tanker fleet ensuring Santos’ exposures and value leakage are mitigated, commercial value and operational flexibility are maximised, and all contractual obligations are met.
- Support Santos’ LNG and Liquids Marketing and Trading to maximise value from Santos’ equity cargoes delivered to customers in Asia
- Gather and leverage market intelligence to develop and execute complimentary, and flexible, chartering strategies and tactics to maximise Santos’ value, whilst managing the risk exposure to the company.
Vessel Operations and optimisation
- Ensure that all obligations arising from contracts and charter parties are carried out.
- Deal with freight counterparties and terminals on a regular basis regarding all pre and post deal activities.
- Liaise with vessels to convey accurate voyage instructions, assist in completing ship-shore compatibility requirements, and load and discharge planning.
- Managing and record terminal delivery nominations, facilitate vessel and terminal clearances, product quality, quantity and value measurement, credit checks and requirements.
- Appointing and managing surveyors for both load and discharge ports
- Support Cargo Operations for cargo invoicing, processing invoice payments, demurrage and claims management.
- Develop and maintain freight performance dashboards and voyage operation systems to ensure transparency, accountability and control of voyage lifecycle.
Chartering
- Identify, negotiate and secure spot and term charter contracts with owners and counterparties, ensuring favourable terms and conditions
- Analyse freight market conditions, including supply, demand, and pricing dynamics, to make data-driven decisions.
- Contribute to the development of chartering strategies and business plans.
- Ownership of a voyage calculation and trading economic models to reduce opportunity evaluation lead time and accuracy.
- Conduct performance evaluations of chartered vessels, review voyage economics, and identify areas for improvement
Relationship management
- Develop and maintain relationships with ship owners and brokers under the guidance of Shipping Manager.
- Represent Santos at customer, joint venture and other external meetings with counterparties
- Present strategic chartering plans to support marketing strategies to internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as marine, finance, insurance and legal to support chartering activities.
