As a Data Center Engineer plays a crucial role in maintaining the operational integrity of the data center by providing support in ticket resolution, hardware replacement, fiber cabling patching, and fiber testing. Roles and Responsibilities
Ticket Support
- Provide efficient and effective resolution of incoming tickets related to data center equipment, network, and infrastructure issues.
- Troubleshoot hardware and network problems and escalate complex issues when necessary.
Hardware Replacement
- Perform hardware replacements and upgrades, including servers, switches, routers, and other data center equipment.
- Coordinate with vendors and maintain an inventory of spare parts and replacement components.
Fiber Cabling Patching
- Configure and manage fiber cabling infrastructure, ensuring proper connections and patching in line with industry standards.
- Document and maintain accurate records of all fiber cabling changes and configurations.
Fiber Testing
- Conduct rigorous fiber testing to identify and resolve connectivity issues and optimize network performance.
- Utilize testing equipment to certify and troubleshoot fiber optic connections.
Preventive Maintenance
- Develop and implement a proactive maintenance schedule to prevent downtime and ensure equipment reliability.
- Keep data center infrastructure up to date with the latest technologies and best practices.
Documentation
- Maintain detailed documentation of data center configurations, changes, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Ensure that documentation is up-to-date and accessible to the relevant teams.
Collaboration
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including network engineers, system administrators, and data center staff, to address complex issues and improve data center operations.
Data Storage and Back-up
- Manage data storage systems.
- Implement data backup and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and availability.
Environmental Control
- Monitor and maintain environmental control systems, including cooling and power supply, to ensure optimal operating conditions for servers and networking equipment.
Any other ad-hoc duties required by Management.
Job Qualifications
- Minimum Diploma or bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.
- 1-2 years of working experience.
- Proven experience in data center operations, preferably in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of data center hardware, fiber cabling, and networking technologies.
- Certification in relevant areas, such as Cisco CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent, is a plus.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and problem-solving in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Able to participate in an on-call rotation if necessary.
- Physical fitness for handling equipment and performing maintenance tasks.
