Job Summary:

The successful applicant will support the Chinese Language Teacher during the teaching process in order to attain educational excellence, assisting in the care of students and the delivery of the Chinese curriculum. The candidate must demonstrate a positive attitude towards the teaching process and communication skills are essential, as liaising and developing sound relationships with children, teachers, parents and colleagues are key to the role.

This role reports to Head of Infant School through the Head of Chinese and Chinese Language Teacher.

Requirements:

• Minimum Diploma/Degree holder preferably in the relevant discipline
• Minimum 2 years of relevant teaching experience
• Be proficient in the Chinese Language
• Experience working with children will be essential
• Good organisation and communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications, Google Docs and knowledge of iPad is essential
• Positive, enthusiastic and mature individuals who enjoy working with children and teachers

The Role

The appointee is engaged to collaborate effectively with the Teachers and the educational support staff (Teaching & Learning Assistants, Specialist Teaching & Learning Assistants and Senior Academic Support Assistants) in order to provide students with a lively, enthusiastic, orderly and safe learning environment in the classroom in the absence of the regular teacher.

Key Responsibilities

Learning & Teaching

· To teach a pre-planned cover lesson to achieve desired objectives (for unplanned absences)

· Differentiate lessons according to the abilities and learning needs of individual students

· Promote independent learning by adopting teaching and learning strategies which develop the competence and confidence of every student.

· Support nurturing the attributes of the Tanglin Learner Profile with its emphasis on ‘balance’ ‘independence’ and ‘resilience’ as key features of student development.

· Ensure the thorough implementation of subject specifications, teaching schemes, assessment policies and reporting procedures.

Assessment, Recording & Reporting

· Ensure students’ work is regularly assessed according to respective department policy and that homework is in line with school policy.

Communication & Liaison

· Follow the School’s policies and procedures with regard to discipline and behaviour, daily routines, duties, homework, leave of absence, and field study trips, as laid down in the Staff Handbook.

· Fulfill supervision role during lunches and break times.

· Embrace and lead on the school’s commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive environment.

· Be responsible for reporting any concerns about a child to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
