Overview and Objectives of the Position

With the Director of Studies (DoS), responsible for the success of the English pathway program, through the management of educational delivery to an industry-leading standard of quality and in accordance with the requirements of the regulatory environment.

Key Result Areas

1. Academic leadership and management

Oversees the highest standard of English educational services delivery by working with the DoS in:

• planning and coordinating all aspects of educational services, including teaching, and course delivery including lessons and assessments
• overseeing the maintenance of high-quality teaching resources and materials, including liaising with appropriate staff on ordering textbooks, and ensuring that materials used by teachers are correctly presented in accordance with company policy
• monitoring of teachers' non-teaching tasks including teaching records and at-risk tracking records
• ensuring centre teachers receive appropriate and relevant day-to-day direction and support on course curricula, materials, and teaching practice
• actively monitoring teaching standards
• troubleshooting issues arising in student and agent complaints
• participating in organisational forums on educational and marketing issues as appropriate in order to facilitate continuous improvement of educational services, and to promote the competitive market position and profitability of Navitas English
• successfully completing projects using agreed project management frameworks as directed by the DoS
• teaching an appropriate weekly teaching load as directed by the DoS, including standby teaching when required
• developing materials and curricula documents in conjunction with the DoS
• participating in other related projects as required

2. Student Support

Oversees additional support provided to students by:

• managing scheduling, conducting of academic counselling sessions, and record keeping with at-risk students,
• liaising with teaching staff on strategies put in place to support at-risk students
• maintaining resources for additional practice for at-risk students to develop weak areas
• providing learning advisor counselling sessions for students as required
• conducting workshops on relevant topics for students

3. Recruitment and development

Contributes to the highest standard of teacher professionalism and performance by:

• assisting in the recruitment of high-quality centre teaching and educational staff
• participating in the induction and training of new teaching staff
• leading, with the DoS, a comprehensive professional development program for educational staff, including performance and peer observation programs, and teacher professional development workshops
• modelling high standards of work performance

4. Industry liaison

Contributes to the professional standing of Navitas as a centre of excellence by:

• actively promoting Navitas courses, services and expertise in relevant professional forums and to appropriate organisations and clients
• day-to-day liaison and communication with students, clients, and other stakeholders through a range of authorized communication channels, including official social media sites, in accordance with company policy

5. Compliance

Contributes to the meeting all regulator and other compliance requirements by:

• ensuring all policies are adhered to as required by relevant regulator
• assisting in updating of policies and procedures as needed
• ensuring privacy regulations are understood and implemented
• ensuring client records and personal information are stored securely according to Curtin Singapore and Navitas English privacy policies
• cooperating with other Navitas staff and external agencies in a way which ensures Navitas complies with privacy regulations

6. Health and Safety

Contributes to the maintenance of a safe working environment by:

• maintaining local workplaces that are safe and without risk to health
• ensuring relevant occupational health and safety regulations are complied with at local workplaces

Qualifications and Selection

Criteria Essential:

• Degree and CELTA (or equivalent)
• Minimum 2 years relevant TESOL experience
• Dynamic, talented educator

The Role

We are seeking to appoint a full time, qualified Teacher Librarian to lead and manage a team of dynamic professionals in the Senior School library. Recent experience in teaching and supporting ages 11-18 and proficiency in using technology as a learning tool is essential. Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership of the Senior Library

• Lead the team in the Senior Library.
• Provide guidance and support to Senior Library staff.
• Monitor and evaluate the quality of the program offered by the Senior Library.
• Contribute to the school’s improvement plan and curriculum development by participating in middle management meetings, technology working parties, and other decision-making groups as appropriate.
• As a member of the TTS library management team, collaborate with relevant groups such as literacy teachers, working parties, HODs and HOYs, to plan and build cross-phase transition programmes and 3-18 frameworks for information literacy and reader development.
• Resource the Senior Library within an allocated budget.
• Liaise with other Heads of Faculty to ensure broad library support of the curriculum.
• Organise and arrange initiatives (which may include presentations to staff or parents) whenever the subject is part of a school curriculum focus.
• Show commitment to the school’s Review and Development process and ensure all library staff participate in the process annually.
• Collaborate with HR to manage the hiring of Senior Library staff as needed.

2. Information, Resources and Services Management

In consultation with library staff, teaching staff and school leadership:

• Manage and develop the library resource collections (both physical and digital) Strategically plan (both long and short term) and manage the development of the library services, resources and.

3. Library Environment

4. Reading Culture

• Foster a love of reading, both for leisure and for academic development.
• Collaborate with teaching and literacy staff to develop a library programme which exposes students to a range of genres, authors, cultures and themes as well as resources which support their curriculum topics and subjects.
• Offer meaningful experiences that will assist in the development of multiple literacies through reading, viewing, listening and responding activities.
• Ensure the reading needs of individual students are met and guidance is available to enable them to find resources to engage their interest and develop them as readers.
• Promote reading, including author visits, and market both print and digital formats.

5. Information Literacy

• Lead on the development of a planned, systematic, and cumulative Information Literacy continuum for students in Middle School (11-14), Upper School (14-16) and Sixth Form (16-18), which gradually increases students’ responsibility for their current and life-long learning.
• Along with the Head of IB and the other members of Academic Integrity committee, lead on the development of a comprehensive Academic Integrity policy.
• Embed Information literacy skills into learning opportunities by actively seeking collaboration with academic staff.
• Provide instruction and support the community so they can determine need, locate, search, evaluate and use information effectively, ethically and legally.

6. Teaching and Learning

• Deliver library lessons to students in the Middle School (11-14), as well as other research and information literacy sessions as needed throughout the Senior School.
• Work with the Head of Senior Library to develop schemes of work for Middle School lessons and other library lessons as needed.
• Deliver lessons that inspire and encourage students to enjoy reading and develop a deeper understanding of research skills and information literacy.
• Keep abreast of current developments in libraries and education.

7. Whole School and International Perspectives

• Develop and maintain open and effective lines of communication with students, staff, parents and the school leadership.
• Collaborate with the library staff to maintain and update library policies and procedures.
• Build a strong professional network in the international community in order to share and keep up to date with new ideas, practices and knowledge. This should involve membership of librarian associations e.g. ISLN, SLA, CILIP, ASLA, and online groups such as OzTL, ECIS and attendance at conferences (in person or online) which assist in the library’s development.
• Demonstrate a personal commitment to life-long learning by participating in continuing professional development and provide opportunities for relevant, professional growth for all library staff.

8. Technology

• Maintain knowledge of current and emerging information resources and technologies.
• Evaluate, implement and promote new resources and technologies that will enhance access to, and creation and use of, information resources.
