Job Duties:

1. Academic Staff

• Prepare and maintain sessional academic staff employment contracts.
• Organise and maintain academic staff contact details, network accounts and systems access.
• Ensure academic staff have access to required equipment and resources.

2. Students Systems Management

• Identify students in need of academic skills support and refer them to relevant support class.

3. Course Planning and Delivery

• Assist in planning of units offering for each study period for all programs.
• Manage and update student study plans each study period for all programs.
• Assist in the development of the academic timetable for each study period in consultation with Director of
• Academic Services and academic staff.
• Prepare timetable in the Student Management System and setup for students’ class registration.
• Manage students’ class registration via the Student Management System.
• Support the class monitoring process to ensure they are taking place in accordance with the timetable and keep records of any changes.
• Support academic staff for course delivery requirement.
• Support lesson observation as part of quality management.
• Assist in planning and organising Study Skills workshops for students.
• Maintain up to date knowledge of course structures and academic policies and procedures.

4. Attendance System Management

• Manage the attendance system and liaise with the vendor to ensure the system is operating effectively.
• Ensure that information (e.g. student enrolment and timetable details) on the attendance system is up to date and accurate.
• Monitor the captured attendance records and review the accuracy of the data captured against scheduled timetable.
• Prepare relevant reports from attendance records to facilitate the monitoring of attendance requirements, including identifying students at risk.
• Prepare student attendance records for submission to Immigration & Checkpoints Authority for the purpose of Student’s Pass applications.
• Process students’ absence justification requests and lecturers’ manual attendance requests.
• Process attendance appeals.
• Coordinate and facilitate staff training sessions on the attendance system.

5. Academic Support

• Meet and provide counselling with students who do not meet attendance requirements.

Overview and Objective of the Position

• The Student Experience and Engagement Officer is responsible for providing administrative and logistic support to student activities and events in relation to Student Committee, Student Clubs and Leadership Programs to provide an enriched campus experience and create a vibrant campus student community. This includes support for planning and executing student-related activities events, maintaining accurate records, and generating reports. The officer will also coordinate activities associated with student orientation, graduation or any University events.
• The position is also responsible for providing career information and guidance to students, helping them to define their career goals, develop job search skills and connect with recruiters.
• The officer will work closely with alumni or industry partners, securing commitments from them to provide professional expertise and volunteer service in the organising of career development workshops, internship opportunities, work-based projects, mentorship and other career related activities.

Job Duties:

• Manage the planning and coordination of symposium/seminar/conference in relations to
campusled initiatives and research development. This includes working with University
personnel to help develop, plan implement and evaluate events and special functions.

5. Other
• Maintain a current database of student knowledge and events pertaining to academic
reporting.
• Produce periodic in-house campus newsletters that are relevant to staff and students.

We are looking to appoint a full-time Project Officer at the School of Humanities in Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

The incumbent will join the Linguistics and Multilingual Studies (LMS) Department working on a project titled ‘Performance-interpretability Tradeoff in Discourse Research’ led by Professor Dennis Tay. The position is a fixed term post for 17 months.

About the Project

The performance-interpretability tradeoff (PIT) in data science and AI refers to the balance between how well a statistical/machine learning model performs, and how readily humans can comprehend it. This project investigates the nature and characteristics of PIT in discourse research, focusing on the following:

i) the (strategically) indeterminate nature of PIT

ii) PIT in time-based algorithms and discourses

iii) conceptual relationship(s) between PIT and ‘mixed-methods’ discourse research, with subsequent developments based on emergent findings.

Discourse datasets to be investigated include psychological counseling, social media, academic lectures, and other relevant time-based contexts, while time-based algorithms include LSTM, ARIMA time series, and survival regression models. The project also aims to design and develop relevant pedagogical resources aimed at students and the general public.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in sourcing and collecting language and discourse datasets across different domains
• Assist in pre-processing discourse data for analysis
• Assist in preparation of research output, pedagogical resources, and/or other project-related deliverables

Job Requirements:
