KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

· Prepare and review of daily PNL and risk reports and follow up any issues with relevant teams;

· Ensure that all risk limits are adhered to and assist in implementing new limits when necessary;

We are seeking an experienced, self-driven and committed Senior Research Officer to conduct research and surveillance of arboviruses and other pathogenic viruses at the Environmental Health Institute.

The successful candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary environment, where his/her research is translated into evidence-based public health programmes and policies. The candidate will conduct studies that will contribute to the risk assessment of arboviruses and/or environmentally transmitted viruses. These studies may include virus culture and characterization, seroepidemiological studies using various immunoassays, among others. He/she will be involved in experimental design, research execution, data analysis and reporting, and will be expected to publish findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

The candidate will have opportunities for personal development in areas such as laboratory management and scientific communication. There will also be opportunities to work with the industry and international and local scientific experts.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree with 3 years relevant experience; or Masters or PhD degree in Virology, Immunology, Cell Biology or related discipline.
• Preferably at least 2 years of working experience and proficiency in core areas relevant to virology, such as virus isolation, mammalian cell culture, immunology and serology.
• Experience with animal model is desirable.
• Willing and physically fit to work in a Biosafety Level 3 (BSL3) environment. Prior working experience in BSL3 facility is preferred.
• Able to design and conduct research projects independently.
• Able to multi-task and with good organisational skills.
• Able to work well in a team, as well as independently in a fast-paced environment.

[What the role is]

You will work with a team of officers in the Radiation Monitoring and Modelling Branch, under the Radiation Monitoring & Services Division, to perform radiological dispersion modelling to support incident preparedness and response operations, as well as maintain a network of ambient radiation monitoring sensors.

[What you will be working on]

You will be responsible for the following:

• Design and simulate scenarios, and operate dispersion modelling systems for both the air and water environment
• Work with relevant stakeholders and be involved in managing projects on development of modelling systems to suit Singapore’s needs. This includes understanding model algorithms, and assessing merits of various models used in other countries
• Collaborate with local/overseas institutes to carry out research and development work to enhance atmospheric and hydrological modelling capability
