Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a proactive and creative individual to provide hands-on support to the Communications and External Affairs Manager. The intern will assist with various projects that communicate CARES’ work to internal and external audiences. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone eager to gain practical, hands-on experience in science communication, digital media, and event coordination. This post is for a minimum of three months, starting February 2025.

This role is ideal for a student or recent graduate interested in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or a related field. We welcome applications from candidates enrolled in a STEM field wanting experience in communications.

Key responsibilities:

Content and Social Media Support

· Assist in drafting and editing content for newsletters, social media posts, website and intranet updates.

· Support the creation of internal and external graphic assets using tools like Canva, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Premiere Pro.

Event Coordination

· Provide logistical support for in-person and virtual events, including liaising with vendors, preparing graphic materials, and coordinating event setups to ensure smooth event execution.

· Perform post-event follow-ups.

· Support the Communications and External Affairs Manager with organizing the annual event schedule and budgeting expenses for upcoming events.

· Attend relevant events to promote CARES and our research.

Administrative Assistance

· Assist in compiling scientific reports and preparing slides as needed.

· Perform any other admin and operations-related tasks as needed.

Desired skills:

· Proficiency in LinkedIn and website content management

· Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools.

· Good organizational and time management skills with great attention to detail.

· Good command of English with solid writing skills.

· Proactive, adaptable and eager to learn!

This a full-time internship based in the CREATE Tower at NUS University Town, Singapore.

The Role

Digital PR Interns play a key role in our performance campaigns, collaborating closely with our content and marketing teams to create brilliant work for clients while enhancing their online presence and building press mentions.

You support all aspects of the PR lifecycle from pitch through to delivery, with a primary responsibility of developing and implementing reactive digital PR campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

1. Take part in content research and ideation of campaigns, helping to generate content that engages, sparks debate, and is newsworthy enough to be featured on high-quality publications. If you’re brilliant at headlines and angles, you’ll fit right in!
2. Leverage trending events to achieve maximum PR impact on campaigns
3. Use a range of tools and sources to collect data and audience insights to form the foundation of ideas for creative digital PR campaigns and strategy
4. Execute the production of Digital PR campaigns – including working with creative teams, and outreaching to journalists
5. Execute tailored outreach strategies, pitches, write press releases and find outreach opportunities that will get journalists interested in your content

Requirements (What It Takes)

• Basic knowledge of Digital PR
• Experience in creating engaging and entertaining outreach campaigns using data and content
• Have experience in supporting a Digital PR campaign
• A strong understanding of the fundamentals of PR and SEO and how they integrate
• Able to learn fast and adapt to the dynamic world of Digital PR
• An excellent command of the English language, both written and verbally
• The ability to multi-task and work to deadlines
• Passion in PR, journalism, marketing, advertising or similar

• You have excellent communication and analytical skills;
• Experience in video production/editing (Adobe Premiere Pro / Adobe After Effects / Final Cut Pro / Apple Motion), visual communications (Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator) would be an asset;
• Be an effective team player in a multicultural working environment;
• Excellent PC skills, particularly with MS Office Programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and MS Project; and Proficient in English. Knowledge of any other language would be an asset.
