Job Summary

The Laundry Assistant is responsible for ensuring a constant supply of clean clothing, linens and patient protection to Residents in the Home through proper handling of clean/soiled/ infected linen. Ensure safety precautions are taken in the course of his / her work.

Job Responsibilities

• Collect dirty linen trolleys from the sluice rooms at the designated time.
• Wash Residents’ clothing, linens such as draw sheets, bed sheets, pillow cases and, patient care accessories and curtains.
• Ensure optimization of each washing or drying cycle.
• Use disinfectant or the assigned detergents for laundry which require special treatment to avoid contamination.
• Soak infected clothing with disinfectant and then wash in the washing machine at the required temperature to avoid contamination.
• Ensure washed and folded linens are ready for collection at the designated time and area.
• Assist to mend clothes and linen which are torn.
• Keep the laundry area clean, neat and dry at all times.
• Take necessary steps in the control and usage of washing detergents, disinfectant and bleach.
• Ensure that the laundry equipment are functioning good working condition at all times
• Record and update number of linens processed daily.
• Report to the Supervisor - Laundry of equipment breakdown or malfunction.
• Performs any other duties assigned by Senior Executive or Executive Operations or Manager, Operations.

Job Specifications

• Minimum Primary School education.
• Able to read and write simple English.

The role of the Healthcare Assistant is to support and assist the Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses in the delivery of nursing care to residents and helps to maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment for them.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Attend to needs of the residents. Ensure the safety, comfort and well-being of the residents and reports residents’ need to the nurse.
• Check, monitor and record residents’ vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respirations and blood pressure.
• Ensure the comfort and good personal hygiene of the residents under her/his care, eg, bed bath/shower bath, changing of clothes and bed sheets, keeping them clean and dry.
• Assist in the transfer and positioning of non-ambulant residents.
• Assist in the conduct of daily exercise for the residents.
• Assist in serving meals and drinks, and feeding residents.
• Maintain accurate documentation of care given.
• Assist the nurse in nursing care, eg, caring for patients with urinary catheter.
• Accompany residents to the hospital/polyclinic for follow up appointments and outing trips.
• Alert nurses to emergency situations. When necessary, take first responder actions to mitigate the emergency.
• Work with nurses to maintain a safe and clean environment in the nursing home.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• ISC (ITE Skills Certificate) Homecare Course/Certificate in Eldercare/ Healthcare Assistant
• Preferably 1-2 years experience in Nursing Home / Healthcare Sector
